Yamaha RX-V3800 A/V Receiver

Most A/V receivers tend to exhibit pretty uninspired industrial designs; they just don't have high-end sex appeal or the dazzling allure of iPods. But Yamaha's RX-V3800 is different, because its designers somehow juggled the necessary functional...

Yamaha’s RX-V3800 is a handsome unit, with a fully loaded features set. True, we felt the setup and menus could be more intuitively designed. Sonically, the receiver’s strengths make it better suited for movie than for music playback.

Ultimate AV: Yamaha RX-V3800 AV Receiver

Evolution is the continual process of change. For electronics manufacturers, evolution is often defined as updating equipment just enough from year to year to make consumers willing to upgrade to the latest and greatest. One could argue that until the...

Yamaha RX-V3800 AV Receiver

Before HDMI, the AVR was mainly an "audio" device with the inclusion of video switching. Now the " V for video" is taking a more prominent role in the evolution of the Audio/Video Receiver by adding advanced video processing into the equation. But this...

Yamaha RX-V3800

The Yamaha RX-V3800 boasts all the features expected of a top-of-the-line receiver, and while audio performance is exceptional video could use some work.

Superb surround sound ; Up-to-date decoding options ; Easy set-up ; Good GUI ; Upscaling to 1080p

Video processing not very good ; Media streaming rudimentary at best

Until Yamaha unveils their Z11 receiver -- which should be any day now -- the RX-V3800 is the company's top-of-the-line receiver. It ticks all the boxes for features -- some more successfully than others -- and should provide most home cinema set-ups...

If you are considering it, then you don't need any help

I have had this in a 5.1 setup for a few weeks now. I bought it when it was five hundo off the listed price here. I will say that it trounces my older RX-V3300 in terms of sound and connections. But like my title says, if you are even considering this...

Hands Down the Pinicle of premium sound

Many may not find it needed, but as I like it loud, I had to provide a dedicated 20 amp circuit to the unit. No problem though, I simply added a UPS that had a 20 amp rating. I am using Klipschorn's up front, La Scala's for rear, Klipsch RC-64 Center...

There are so many pluses, but the best is the sheer flexibility to connect and stream from almost any device, XM HD, Excellent Video switching without degradation of signal. my MCPC and this unit give me total control over my library of music and other...
