Yamaha RX-V665 - AV receiver - 7.2 channel review: Yamaha RX-V665 - AV receiver - 7.2 channel

Yamaha RX-V665 - AV receiver - 7.2 channel

Four HDMI inputs; onboard Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding; XM- and Sirius-ready; upconverts analog video signals to 1080p; automatic speaker calibration system; dual subwoofer outputs.

Similarly priced Onkyo offers six HDMI inputs; cannot assign audio inputs; poor image quality on upconverted analog video signals; doesn't sound as good as previous Yamaha receivers; onscreen display looks outdated; cluttered remote.

Yamaha's RX-V665BL includes more features than its predecessor, but it doesn't sound as good, has poor video upconversion quality, and doesn't let you assign digital-audio inputs.

Yamaha RX-V665 7.1 A/V Receiver

Part of what I enjoy most about this hobby is helping other people get into it. Given that, I'm a big fan of mid- to entry-level home theater equipment, since most people asking for advice about their first system are not looking to dole out beaucoup...

I had the 665 as the centerpiece of my system for about two months, so I had ample time to get used to it, and experience it on both an “every day” level, and a critical listening level. I’d like to stress that I was very impressed with what $550 can...

Cannot assign audio inputs ; Poor image quality on upconverted analog video signals ; Doesn't sound as good as previous Yamaha receivers ; On-screen display looks outdated ; Cluttered remote

We put the test patterns away and switched to actual program material, but the RX-V663's performance didn't improve. The introduction to Seabiscuit is a torture test for video processors and the RX-V665's processor was sufficiently pained, as the image...

Good Product POOR PACKAGING

This unit has plenty of features, tons of hookups, and sounds a lot better than a unit I returned. Auto upscaling is fantastic, so you only have to use a single HDMI cable for multiple different inputs. My only gripe: For a unit that is nearly $500 I...

Nice design, loaded with features, good sound, plenty of connections, does not seem to run hot, automatic speaker setup

Consumer review (newegg.com)

Great Price alot of features.

Great value for your dollar..If you don't need alot of power/volume.

Lots of features. Great price ; Lots of inputs and all the inputs are renameable so someone like my wife can know what input to use as you can name things like 'VCR' or 'DVD' or WII etc

You need to do the update yourself for the firmware ; Its pretty simple in that you just download the update from Yamaha website, burn it to a disc as a CD song, hook up your DVD player to it and initiate the firmware update by playing the song. But...
