I purchased the unit and had problems from day 1 (freezes when fast forwarding), I went back to the store and couple of days after I got it and told them what it was doing. They said to download the latest software which I did a couple of day later as...

I have just connected Strong SRT5498 and found it easy to use so far no problems and I bought it at a bargin price so I am happy it is much easier to use than my old dvd hd recorder which will not work now that we have changed from analog to digital
easy to use

The sales person told me strong has a good reputation and I beleived it. The first recorder lasted about a week before it would not respond to the remote and I could not turn it off even after turning off power at the socket. The store replaced the...
The store returned the money
Other than not being able to use it - I suppose it looks okay

This was purchased as a 2nd unit to my Topfield 7160. The Topfield records 4 programs at once, two services on each of it's dual tuners. The Strong 5498 isn't worth buying as it's difficult to program, has limited features that may replaying a bit...
Not much, I guess it can record something if you need it to but it's a piece of junk really.
Clunky interface, lack of clear and easy to program EPG compared to Topfield.

We have found this unit to be good apart from cutting recording programs short. The book says you can extend the time but it only gives the option of 10mins which is not enough when recording things such as motorbike racing - any suggestions? I have...

The channel delete feature complained about in the other reviews is now available with a software update. I have been using the unit for a while now and have never had an issue where it has crashed, needing the power cord removed. I know crashing is...
Compared to other PVR’s in the same price range, this unit is able to playback other file formats such as MP2, Divx, MP4 all without any lip-sync issues like LG devices have. More importantly, the unit allows you to copy files to a USB device and play...
There may be a cheaper unit out there if you don’t need to play back files typically downloaded of the internet. The 4 digit display on the front of the unit prevents the user from knowing information such as which channel is recording and playback...

Worked basically as advertised until today when it refused to accept remote control commands or even on device buttons. Had to turn it off at the power point and turn it off several times in two instances before it came good. There is no "reset" button...
Worked as advertised for the first 6 days.
Locked up three times on day seven.

Do not buy as it auto tunes every station including digital radio etc. In regional areas it tunes some of the stations twice. Then when you do a smart series record it records twice, if station was auto tuned in twice. Support states that you CANNOT...
The auto tuning with a heap of unwanted stations not able to be deleted. Also nothing to indicate when recording and also nothing to show which recordings have been watched.
