Review Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M document scanner

For those looking to reduce the amount of paper in their life, the space-saving, easy to use ScanSnap S1500m offers competitive price and solid performance.

Easy to use ; Intuitive controls ; Space-saving design ;

Scans of images contained some artifacts ; OCR documents required some editing ;

The compact silver and white S1500M is solidly built and connects to your Mac via USB 2.0. Its fold-up design allows it to take up little desktop real estate when not in use

Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M review

Fujitsu offer a speedy but expensive solution for loose-sheet document scanning

Very fast ; Meaty auto-feeder ; Good quality scans

Loose sheets only

It's not cheap, but you're getting a very capable machine for your money

Fujitsu Scan Snap S1500 M

The Scan Snap S1500 M – M for Macintosh – document scanner is surprisingly light and the size of a box of tissues. Install the software, connect the power supply to the unit and the USB to your Mac and you're operational.

Small footprint; easy to use; fast; versatile; customisable; bundle includes Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional

None significant, considering the versatility and price of the scanner

Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M

Fujitsu's ScanSnap S1500M is the latest in the company's line of desktop document scanners. It replaces the 510M and adds a couple of notable features

We're less impressed with the S1500M than we were with its predecessors. That's partly down to the glitches we experienced in tests, but it's also because the world has moved significantly forwards in the past couple of years. You can now buy an A4...

Good product

I'm a hardware techie, but a n00b to this way of organizing my receipts into searchable PDF files. I needed some way of organizing and tracking my household/work/business expenses that didn't require me to be a full-time book keeper with the finance...

Fast scans, many software options, fairly simple interface, easy to use, works with OS-X Lion or Windows (both drivers etc. come on disk), compatible with NeatWorks software sold by Neat company. Can choose to make every document you scan into a...

Would like to see better documentation and more tightly integrated software package. Bad, BAD for photographs or fragile documents (use carrier sheet for those). OCR software is sometimes brilliant, and sometimes not so much

Wonderful

Replaced an older snapscan with this one... much improved. Ignore the reviews claiming no Snow Leopard support. That's been fixed with a downloadable driver. Works great with my Snow Leopard.

Feeder works well, unlike some previous models. Handy popup menu to select preset and user defined scan settings. (Gray, color, duplex, file format, etc.) Small footprint

Supplies difficult to find at the moment.... maybe that will improve with time. They ain't cheap, either

Use Mac OS X's operating system to organize, find, and view your scans

I am not a S1500M user yet but i do use my older scanner in this fashion. And based on all that I am reading on the amazing ScanSnap machine, I hope to purchase one from Newegg this month. I hope this helps.

This is a note to DigitalDoc's 2/2/2011 11:38:36 AM comment. I hope this helps ; The scanning software that the S1500M comes with makes your scans searchable. Searching is something the MAC OS does very well thanks to Spotlight. Your Mac came with...

I wish the S1500M was less expensive but know it's ease of use will pay for itself as it helps me become more organized

Not as good on a Mac...

Undecided if I'm going to keep the scanner. I've had the PC version at my office for over a year. Works great. Has allowed me to go pretty much paperless. Not going to be as easy at home with the Mac version! If I can't find a suitable program to use...

Fast scans and fast OCR conversion

Purchased the Mac version after using the PC version in my office for a year. Mac version doesn't come with the ScanSnap Organizer software... the software is what made me love this thing! Without it, it's difficult to scan and organize your documents...

The ScanSnap cleans up my office!!!!

The footprint of the device is the size of a shoebox. The pictures make it look like the size of a printer. A $400+ scanner might seem a little pricey but the utility will save you some headaches and might get rid of filing cabinet or two. De-clutter...

This is one of those devices that changes your life and the software make the scans better than paper. On the Mac I can find the documents with spotlight. It scans double sided, multi-page, documents remarkably fast. It's physical foot print is small....

I was a little confused by all the Acrobat discs. Seems like they were different language versions. Still not sure if I installed more than I had to, but it all worked fine. It was not intuitive how to configure it to create searchable scanned...
