Plustek OpticFilm 7500i Review

If you were thinking of buying the Plustek OpticFilm 7500i AI for its headline-grabbing 7200dpi resolution, you might feel a little disappointed. The real resolution of the scanner is apparently somewhere just below 4000dpi. But I'll hasten to add that...

Plustek OpticFilm 7500i AI 35mm Film Scanner

Photography is one of those hobbies and industries that have dramatically changed in the last 5 years. Most avid amateur photographers, including myself, used to shoot 35mm film. Now many of ...

7200 DPI Scanning ability out of a 35mm negative ; No moving parts and relatively easy to use after hardware is installed ; Good professional grade piece of hardware ; QuickScan menu settings are easy to use ; Nice carrying bag for transport ;...

Expensive and way over kill for the average consumers needs ; Too many languages on the box and instruction manuals ; SilverFast Ai Studio is confusing to use ; High resolution scans take at least 4 minutes per image ; Manual feeding of slide holder...

I thought the film and negative holders seem a bit flimsy for a higher end product. When you close the lid on the negative, the negative seems to still move around inside the enclosure.

OpticFilm 7500i SE

Plustek's OpticFilm 7500i SE is a compact, high-resolution, portable (3.5 lb) dedicated film scanner that does a quality job of digitizing and archiving 35mm transparencies and negatives.

Quality, high-resolution scans

Silverfast's excessive amount of tools is confusing

The OpticFilm 7500i SE is a good performer, with scanning times that vary due to some features requiring more processing time. Using a dual Intel processor, a straight scan at 7200 dpi/48 bit took on average two minutes coming into Photoshop as a...

PLUSTEK OPTICFILM 7500I SE

I''m not a corporate guy and almost never respond to surveys like this but this machine is apleasure to work with.

Plug and play on XP. Scans slides and film with no problems. Silverfast software very easy to use when altering color balance and contrast. First rate so far

None so far. Haven''t tried it on my Vista machine as yet

PLUSTEK OPTICFILM 7500I SE

I like the 7500iSE very much. Able to get very good scans. It is a small simple machine that is a good solution to my problem of scanning hundreds of slides and negatives from the past 30 years. HINT: clean negatives and slides if needed. Use PEC-12...

Best choice of 35mm scanners currently on market. Less than half the price of the Nikon. Very good scan can be made with the 7500iSE

SilverFast is just OK. VueScan ($40) is a better choice. As with ALL scanners and scans, post work in Photoshop is needed for best results

Does what it says

The included software does a fair job with spots and scratches, but I'm still using photoshop to fix some stuff that the Silverstone software does not handle.

Easy to use and set up. Does a good job scanning negatives, but it will require a serious amount of time if you have a bunch of stuff to scan and you are using the highest settings. Great product for the price and I'm happy with the results so far. I...

Plustek OpticFilm 7500i SE

Maximum resolution of 7200dpi. Silverfast.

For professional output, scannining at 7200dpi is essential, prior to downsizing - this gives better results than the 3600dpi option. This makes scanning a bit slow. An option of scanning 5400dpi might be a useful compromise. iSRD doesn't do anything...

Plustek OpticFilm 7500i SE

Easy to use (only scanned slides so far, but I don't expect any problems with negs).

Two software items in the bundle, and not easy to sort out initially. Some of the 'help' areas were less than helpful! However, as with any complex programs, ease of use improves as experience is gained.
