Icontrol Networks Piper nv

The Icontrol Networks Piper nv is a unique security camera that doubles as a home automation hub. This time around it offers night vision, a more robust camera sensor, and a faster processor.

Excellent HD image detail. Pan, tilt, and zoom functions. Sharp night vision. Integrates with Z-Wave devices. Two-way audio.

No Web app. No local storage.

Last but not least, the Live Video tab is where you go to view live streaming video. You can view the stream in full screen mode from a fish-eye perspective, pinch the image to zoom in and out, and use finger swipes to engage the pan and tilt features....

Icontrol Networks Piper NV review

One of the beautiful things about DIY home security is that it champions piecemeal installation -- you can grab a SmartThings hub for 99 bucks, the brand's own open/close sensor for another $54, a Dropcam Pro for $199 and a Schlage Camelot Touchscreen...

From setup to shutdown, Icontrol Networks' $269 or £230 Piper NV all-in-one security device was an absolute delight to use.

You'll spend more upfront than some other standalone security options. It doesn't have an IFTTT channel or offer partnerships with third-party brands beyond its basic Z-Wave integrations.

For easy, seamless DIY home security and automation integration, look no further than the Piper NV.

Piper nv Review

Home owners have more power now than ever before, thanks in part to the diversified portfolio of tech gadgets around that can instantly transform any home to a smart one. Security, in particular, has seen significant gains in the last couple of years...

Night vision sees through the darkness ; Upgraded camera produces slightly better video quality ; Comprehensive control using the app ; No monthly charges or subscriptions for the service

Basically the same set of features from before ; There’s no way to download recorded footage ; Tough call on paying for the $80 difference vs the Piper classic

Comparing their prices, the Piper classic is still selling for $200 – while the new Piper nv will set you back $280. That $80 difference, by itself, is pretty substantial in our opinion, since the main differentiator at stake here is night vision. Even...

Icontrol Networks Piper nv Review

The Icontrol Piper nv is a very good choice if you're looking for a security camera that can double as a home-automation system. At $279, it's much more expensive than competing cameras, but the Piper's simple setup process, built-in alarm system and...

Easy setup ; Multiple security modes ; Integrated alarm system ; Remotely controls Z-Wave-compatible home accessories ; Night vision

Pricey compared to similar cameras ; Can't tilt or rotate the camera ; No Web-based control panel ; App sometimes has trouble connecting to the camera

If you're willing to pay a premium, the Piper nv is a security camera and home-automation system rolled into one.

Piper nv review

The connected security cam that wants to double as a smart home hub

Highly customisable ; Works well as a security device ; Slick app

Flaky networking ; Iffy smart home integration ; Average video quality

The Piper nv wants to be the brains of your smart home but right now it’s better just being the brawn

The big question is ‘is the Piper nv worth the money?’ and in a word, yes, it is. The first generation Piper classic was a good entry into the home automation/home security industry, but it was lacking in several areas, mainly with regards to the...
