M-Audio AV 40

The M-Audio AV 40 remains a solid performer after some running manufacturing changes, and still straddles the line between higher-end home audio speakers and low-end studio monitors.

Clean, powerful sound. Reasonable low-end extension for a 2.0 system. Relatively flat response means you can use these as studio monitors in a pinch. Solid build quality. Plenty of connection choices.

Large for powered PC speakers. Slightly recessed high end. Still lack low-end punch compared with similarly priced 2.1 systems. Rear-mounted power switch is a pain.

Performance and Conclusions In a series of listening tests, the AV 40 delivered the same clean, crisp sound as the original version. At high volumes, the speakers really come into their own, with plenty of clean level and a solid presentation across...

Review: M-Audio Studiophile AV 40

M-Audio's Studiophile AV 40 speakers do what the big guys can but take up a lot less space. So what if they weigh 14 pounds...

Peerless audio quality. Great value.Wake-the-neighbors loud. Magnetically shielded, so you won’t catch abuzz off your cell phone or mess with your laptop’s screen. Handy headphone jack lets you work musicians’ hours while housemates snooze

With 6 x 7.25-inch footprints, they do take up room (and at 14 pounds a pair, you won’t be moving them around much).Backside power switch means you’re constantly doing a reach-around at bedtime

SlashGear Review – M-Audio Studiophile AV40

I've had my M-Audio Studiophile AV40′s in place for a little while, so I thought that I would share my findings with you. First, let me just say that these are amazing.

Overall, I couldn’t be more impressed with a pair of speakers. The only downfall is their size, which they more than make up for in quality. I’m going to give these 4.5 out of 5 gears.

M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Speaker System

Attention speakerphiles: the M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Speaker System is super. Kind of. .

Delivers full spectrum of sound

Delivers distracting funky buzz, too

Listening to the power funk of Tower of Power’s “Oakland Stroke,” we were impressed by the AV 40s’s ability to deliver the band’s full sonic spectrum, from the belch of Stephen “Doc” Kupka’s baritone sax to the crackle and snap of Dave Garibaldi’s drum...

The Best Computer Speakers

If you're looking for the best all-around computer or desktop stereo speaker system, we recommend the Mackie CR3 for its price and high-fidelity audio.

This was an easy decision because the M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 sounded so good and cost so little. But would we put the bulky, plasticky-looking AV 40 on our sleek executive desks (if any of us had sleek executive desks)? Perhaps not. That’s why we...

Review: M-Audio Studiophile AV 40

If you've got room on your desk (or bookshelf), the AV 40 is an excellent set of compact studio monitors that out-performs the traditional 2.0 computer speakers we've tested, and even bests many 2.1 systems when it comes to overall sound quality.

But there’s another type of 2.0 system out there: studio monitors, which are essentially powered bookshelf speakers designed for use in recording and production studios. Studio monitors tend to be bulkier than traditional 2.0 computer speakers—and...

M-Audio Studiophile AV40 Desktop Speaker System Review

If you're looking for a set of bargain speakers to use with your budget-minded computer, you might as well start looking elsewhere. The price tag on the M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Desktop Speaker System is not for the faint of…

Added versatility with inclusion of audio-in jack, RCA inputs, and TRS inputs ; Very solid construction, professional appearance ; Good sound quality, deep bass notes ; Ridiculously easy to set up and use

Too heavy and large for some desks ; Might be a bit too revealing with low quality sources ; Volume knob doesn't turn speakers off ; Power cable is a little short

For the average computer user or even someone looking to play some video games on their television, the M-Audio Studiophile AV40 Desktop Speaker System is high quality, compact, and totally overkill. They're definitely built well with a good amount of...

M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 review

Home entertainment speakers aim to make everything sound impressive; music production speakers are designed to reproduce sounds accurately.

Speakers that go for quality over quantity. Affordable speakers that bridge the gap between PC and studio.

M-Audio Studiophile AV 40

M-Audio's Studiophile AV 40 is a PC speaker for music lovers who care more about sound quality than compact size or rock bottom pricing.

Bigger-than-average sound ; Large 4-inch woofer, 1-inch tweeter ; 20 watts per speaker ; Rock solid construction ; Bass Boost switch

Large size (for PC/desktop speakers) may be an issue
