Huawei MateBook E

Despite a capable, high-quality touch screen and iPad Pro-like looks, the Huawei MateBook E doesn't measure up to many competing detachable 2-in-1s.

Thin and light. Responsive and crisp touch screen. Full-size keys. USB adapter included.

Lackluster performance. Relatively short battery life. Subpar trackpad. Lacks angled keyboard. Pre-partitioned hard drive.

Ultimately, the MateBook E is less than the sum of its parts: a gorgeous display, a thin and light form factor, and processor, memory, and storage options that you'd expect to find on a laptop. Bring it all together, though, and you get an...

Huawei MateBook E review: Scratching the surface

We give our verdict on Huawei's latest 2-in-1. How does it compare to the competition from Microsoft and Apple?

Extreme colour depth ; Highly portable design ; Powerful speakers

Heavily constrained performance ; Keyboard bends under pressure ; Short battery life ; Higher-end version is pricey for its capabilities

The Huawei MateBook E hits highs with superb colour reproduction and great portability, but short battery life doesn’t cut it as a tablet, and performance can’t compete with the Microsoft Surface Pro 8.

Huawei MateBook E review: Round two still has work to do

The original MateBook didn't have a particularly long battery life per charge, nor was the keyboard cover's stand very well designed. The MateBook E

Improved keyboard cover ; Infinitely variable stand ; Decent screen ; Integrated fingerprint scanner ; Near silent operation

Battery life still isn't great ; Upright typing position not too comfortable ; Expensive for moderate spec ; Hard to locate in UK

The original MateBook didn't have a particularly long battery life per charge, nor was the keyboard cover's stand very well designed. The MateBook E fixes this latter issue with a more creative keyboard cover, but the device doesn't go far enough to...

Huawei MateBook E review

You will probably either love or loathe the idea of a 2-in-1. But as the MateBook E shows, there are real advantages to choosing one over a traditional laptop.

The MateBook E is a clear improvement from the first generation and is on par with the Surface Pro as the best Windows 10 hybrid device. The well-built and included keyboard cover is the quiet star of the show here, as there’s not much you can do to...

Huawei MateBook E hands-on review

The original MateBook was a tentative toe in the water for Huawei. The 2-in-1 tablet that ran Windows, rather than the more familiar Android OS, was a

Huawei MateBook E review: Hands-on with Huawei’s second gen Surface Pro 4 rival

A huge improvement on the first MateBook, thanks in main to a better keyboard case

I haven’t yet been able to run full benchmarks and battery life tests, and we don’t have final UK pricing yet, although the euro prices, which start at €999, set a worrying precedent. However, so far the Huawei MateBook 2 looks to be a considerable...
