Microsoft Surface Pro review: PC-worthy tablet nearly gets it right

The Surface experiment works, but it's not a kill shot to laptops just yet.

The ; fits a full ultrabook experience in a compact 10-inch tablet. Thanks to the ingenious Type and Touch covers, it offers a comfortable interface and typing experience. The clean, crisp design and sharp 1080p screen rise above the competition.

The battery life is disappointing, and more ports would be nice. The 64GB model barely has any free storage. It costs as much as a regular laptop, especially because the cool keyboard cover isn't included by default.

The Surface Pro's gutsy design successfully reinvents the Windows 8 laptop by cramming an ultrabook experience into the body of a 10-inch tablet. Those wanting to go all-in on the tablet experience won't regret buying the Surface Pro, but we're holding...

Microsoft Surface Windows 8 Pro

The Microsoft Surface Windows 8 Pro is the Windows 8 slate tablet to beat when you need the performance and convenience of a PC in a compact tablet form factor.

Compact. Improved UI: Things don't look "too small" in desktop mode. Comes with pressure-sensitive stylus. Works with Surface covers. Truly Windows compatible. Ultrabook components. Full 1080p HD screen. 10-finger touch screen.

Keyboard cover is an optional extra. Only one USB 3.0 port. VGA and HDMI require optional adapters.

Microsoft Surface with Windows 8 Pro: Hotter, Thicker, Faster, Louder

What happens when you take Surface RT and add an Intel processor and hi-res screen?

The screen is pretty ; Touch Covers and Type Covers are still good typing solutions ; The build quality remains first-rate ; Runs Windows apps with aplomb

Runs hot ; Runs loud ; Runs short ; The whole resolution scaling situation is unsatisfactory ; Metro-style apps still lacking in breadth, number, and quality

New Surface Pro

You wouldn't know it from the name, but the Surface Pro is actually the fifth convertible tablet-come-laptop from Microsoft. When did companies decide that numbers were no longer cool?

Microsoft Surface Pro video review - Windows 8 tablet is a compromise, but a good compromise.

The Surface Pro is either a tiny Ultrabook or a bulky Windows 8 tablet, depending on your point of view. Is the Surface Pro the one device to rule them all? Watch our Surface Pro UK video review to find out.

Microsoft's latest hybrid packs a serious punch

Blazing performance; Excellent design; High-quality display
