Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 review

Even if you rarely use the S Pen, the Galaxy Note 8.0 is a solid tablet in its own right.

Sturdy build quality ; Strong performance ; Vibrant display ; Pen can now be used to tap the capacitive soft keys ; Not many tablets this size with pen support

Disappointing battery life ; No HSPA+ option in the US

Given that the Note 8.0 reads like the greatest hits of Samsung's Galaxy on paper, you may expect it to be a triumph of engineering. And, in a way, it is. With a vibrant 8-inch, 1,280 x 800 display, powerful Exynos 4 Quad processor and healthy 2GB of...

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 review: The roadster

8.0" 16M-color LCD capacitive touchscreen of 800 x 1280 pixel resolution, Android OS v4.1.2 with TouchWiz launcher, 1.6 GHz quad-core Cortex-A9 CPU, Mali-400MP GPU, 2GB of RAM, Exynos 4412 Quad chipset, S Pen active stylus with deep system integration,...

Speakers at the bottom, rather than front-facing on either side, as in the bigger Note 10.1, Fails to match the premium feel of an iPad mini (or a Galaxy Tab 7.7), No FM Radio or NFC support, Questionable still image and video recording quality

A few generations of the Galaxy Tab into the tablet game, Samsung has been mostly watching Apple and the iPads. And we mean watching them pull away into the distance in terms of sales. And it's not like the Koreans were doing too many things wrong. The...

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 hands-on: First look

Samsung is trying really hard to not leave an empty spot in the mobile market, so the Galaxy Note 8.0 announcement shouldn't be a surprise. The compact tablet follows the same design guidelines as all the other Samsung high-end devices announced in the...

The Galaxy Note 8 still does it all, but Samsung is set to top it soon

If the rumors are right, Samsung will top the Note 8 with the Note 9 in August.

The Galaxy Note 8 is still a terrific phone in 2018, with dual cameras and a boatload of stylus tricks. It's currently the most feature-rich Android phone you can buy.

Expensive by any measure, the Note 8 has more features than most people will need. Samsung's portrait mode can be finicky. The poorly placed fingerprint reader repeats the Galaxy S8's worst design flaw.

With the Galaxy Note 9 just around the corner, now's a bad time to buy a new Galaxy Note 8 -- wait for the Note 9 to go on sale and the Note 8's price will surely drop.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8: Lots of features, beautiful screen, high price

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is Samsung's best tablet yet and integrates its S Pen stylus near seamlessly into the OS. If the idea of paying $400 for an 8-inch tablet doesn't turn your stomach, it's more than worth a look.

The ; is comfortable to hold and has the best-looking small tablet screen yet. Writing with the S Pen feels natural and is preferred over typing on a tablet screen. Storage can be expanded via microSD, and the Watch On feature has potential as a...

The $399 price is a lot for a small tablet, no matter its features. It's not as thin or as light as the iPad Mini, and some people won't appreciate the highly saturated look of the OS. Also, its face buttons sometimes get in the way and there are...

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is a stunning tablet with a truly useful stylus, but it's not worth $400 unless you're an artist or prefer pen input.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 ( AT&T)

Unfortunately, even in a more hypercompetitive tablet market, AT&T follows Samsung's lead too closely and charges an arm and a leg for its version of the Note 8 -- $500 contract free (with a $25 monthly charge) or $400 when you sign up for a two year...

The AT&T version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is a comfortably-designed tablet with a an excellently implemented stylus interface. Its myriad software features are both useful and unique.

Off- and on-contract prices are too high and as good as the stylus is, I'd still rather use my fingers for most tasks. Gaming performance is a step back from the latest and greatest 2013 tablets.

The AT&T version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is a quality tablet, but the Nexus 7 offers contract-free 4G LTE support with better performance at a much better price.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 (Wi-Fi)

If you want a tablet with a pressure-sensitive pen for writing or drawing, the Galaxy Note 8.0 is a top choice, but it'll cost you twice as much as other leading small-screen slates.

Fast. Well-built with well-balanced weight. Excellent pen support. Acts as a TV remote.

Expensive. Battery life isn't great. Poor cameras.

Conclusions When Apple launched the iPad mini, I said it inaugurated a new age of premium-priced small tablets. So what should I call a tablet that costs 20 percent more than Apple's?

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 review

The story of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 really starts with a different device — the Galaxy Note 10.1. Samsung advertised a power-user's dream device: letting you edit documents or draw with a pen,...

S Pen is a great drawing tool ; Fast, consistent performance ; Light and thin

Samsung software is overbearing ; Weak, poor speakers ; Display resolution is quickly becoming obsolete

A true 'lean-forward' tablet experience, if that's possible

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Review

For the past couple of years Samsung, and many other Google partners, have been on the hunt to improve productivity on Android - particularly on tablets. We've seen hardware solutions (ASUS' Transformer line) as well as software solutions (Samsung's...

Samsung’s strategy in the mobile market appears to be success through catering to a sea of niches. I’ve also heard it referred to as having a device at every inch. In this sense, Samsung is the antitheses of Apple where simplicity in product lines is...
