T-Mobile G-Slate review

The tablet wars are building, petty disputes that will soon lead to bloodshed. Products will be launched into battle only to be gunned down straight

Narrower profile fits nicely in the hand ; Lighter than the Xoom ; Solid 4G speeds

Plasticy back ; No WiFi version available ; Poor cameras

Samsung Slate PC review

With all the hype surrounding the new Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet, and favorites such as the iPad 2 and Asus Transformer, it's easy to forget that there are still new Windows tablets hitting stores. In fact, Windows tablets have been around for years,...

Samsung's Series 7 Slate is a powerful touch-screen Windows 7 PC, with a very Windows-8-like optional interface.

Onscreen typing is finicky and headache-inducing. The sold-separately dock and keyboard are practically required.

The Samsung Series 7 Slate 700T is the fastest Windows 7 tablet we've tested, and paired with its optional accessories, it provides a very laptop-like experience, but one marred by the typical awkward onscreen Windows typing experience.

Review: T-Mobile G-Slate (Android Honeycomb)

The G-Slate is compact, with an 8.9-inch screen, and generally easy to use. It nails the basics, but the extras need work.

T-Mobile G-Slate with Google (by LG)

Attention potential Motorola Xoom buyers: the T-Mobile G-Slate with Google (by LG) has Honeycomb, too—as well as a slightly smaller design and 3D capabilities.

First 4G tablet. Powerful Tegra 2 processor. Excellent HD screen, with HD output capability. Shoots and plays 3D footage (glasses included). Affordably-priced (after rebate) for 32GB capacity. Generally intuitive user interface. Dual-facing cameras....

Default Honeycomb home screen feels cluttered. Flash 10.2 beta is buggy. Strange, off-center orientation for front-facing camera. Occasionally reboots, unprovoked, when idle. Android Market needs more Honeycomb apps.

Honeycomb gets a lot of the little things right—like a great multitasking view bar, and excellent notifications for email and calendar. These are implemented better than Apple's iOS, but the iPad's overall OS experience remains smoother and easier to...

LG G-Slate review

It looks like tablet season is getting started early. LG's G-Slate is having its T-Mobile coming out party on the same day that RIM's PlayBook is set to slide into the hands of consumers, making...

Display is crisp and clear ; Battery life is excellent ; Running Android 3.0

Size and shape is awkward ; Price with contract expensive ; 3D camera is little more than a gimmick

That’s a lot of money for a tablet that will be last season in six months or less

T-Mobile G-Slate review

Editors' note: We've lowered the T-Mobile G-Slate's score slightly to reflect the increasing selection of competing Honeycomb devices, many of which offer near-identical features at a lower cost. For our most up-to-date ranking of top tablets, visit...

With 4G support, a wide-angle IPS screen, out-of-the-box streaming TV features, and Honeycomb support, the G-Slate is one of the best options for Android tablet shoppers.

Unless you have a thing for two-year contracts, the G-Slate is pretty expensive. 3D implementation is disappointing, and 4G drains the battery something quick.

Thanks to its high-quality screen, streaming TV features, and 4G support (if you're willing to sign a contract), the T-Mobile G-Slate is one of the better Honeycomb tablets on the market today; however, its high no-contract price insures that it's not...

Pantech Slate C530 (AT&T)

The Pantech Slate focuses on one thing—texting—and does it very well.

Sublime QWERTY keyboard. Large screen. Solid battery life. Inexpensive with-contract price.

Not enough memory to store media music files. No memory card slot. Some Bluetooth pairing issues.

T-Mobile G-Slate Review

2011 may be the year of the tablet, but so far only one Android 3.0 Honeycomb ( review ) example has managed to reach the market. Motorola's XOOM was criticized for launching perhaps before Honeycomb was quite ready; now the T-Mobile G-Slate by LG is...

In a way it’s difficult to criticize LG for its decision to put 3D into the G-Slate. We’re constantly asking manufacturers to think about how they’ll differentiate their tablets from the iPad, and 3D recording is obviously LG’s push to do just that....
