Nikon D810 Review

Two years after Nikon shook up the high-end DSLR market with the 36MP D800 and D800E, it consolidated the 800-series with the release of a new camera, the D810. The D810 replaced both previous 800-series models, and took the D800E's 'AA filter...

Nikon D810 DSLR

The Nikon D810 DSLR camera has a host of eminently likable features, giving it the flexibility and power that all photographers want in a camera. The D810 works equally well as a camera for shooting sports, for shooting nature photos, and for shooting...

Brilliant image quality across JPEG, RAW, and TIFF formats ; Full frame FX image sensor ; Sharper detail than many other DSLRs because Nikon removed anti-aliasing filter ; Works fast in viewfinder mode ; Very quiet operation ; 36-plus-megapixels of...

Heavy camera, especially if you make use of a telephoto lens ; Photo files are extremely large in terms of storage space, even JPEG ; High price tag ; No Wi-Fi, no GPS, no articulated LCD, no touch screen LCD ; Maximum burst rate of 5 fps at full...

Nikon D810

The Nikon D810 is a high-resolution monster with incredible image quality and performance. It's expensive, but earns Editors' Choice honors.

High-resolution full-frame image sensor. 5fps burst capture. Fast 51-point autofocus system. Wide ISO range (32-51200). 1080p60 video capture. Intervalometer and time lapse functions. Sensor omits low pass filter. Dual card slots. Sharp rear LCD. Loads...

Expensive. Small Raw mode limited to 9MP. Time lapse limited to 8 hours. No integrated Wi-Fi or GPS.

The D810 doesn't include Wi-Fi or an integrated GPS. The Sony Alpha 99 is one of the few cameras in this class that has a GPS, and none of the pro models include built-in Wi-Fi. Nikon does sell the WT-5A Wireless Transmitter ($877) and UT-1...

Nikon D810 Review

Boasting a brand new 36.3-megapixel FX format sensor with no optical low pass filter, the Nikon D810 promises the highest image quality in Nikon's history, at least according to Nikon. The Nikon D810 offers a rugged, weather sealed magnesium-alloy...

The Nikon D810 is an incremental upgrade of a great camera, adding slightly better image quality and a smattering of new features to the best-selling D800/E, most notably the improved shutter mechanism and electronic shutter option which help to combat...

Nikon D810 Review

The 36-megapixel Nikon D810 has some pretty big shoes to fill, replacing the much-loved D800 and D800E with a single model. Taking the best of both, this detail-devouring beauty has even greater per-pixel resolution, a wider sensitivity range, greater...

Handles even better than its predecessors; Absolutely spectacular images from the 36-megapixel image sensor; Unusually wide sensitivity range for its resolution; Improved performance and buffer depths; Improved video feature set; Impressive low-light...

Prone to moire and false color with some subjects; No longer available with a low-pass filter; Demands excellent lenses for the best detail; White balance tends warm under tungsten lighting

Nikon D810 Pro DSLR Review: The Best Gets Better

The Nikon D810 is an exceptional camera and a great successor to the D800/D800E. There are few shooting situations it can't handle, aside from fast-paced sports, where the frame rate is not quite fast enough. In fact, the D810 is such a well-rounded...

Extreme sharpness due to lack of anti-aliasing filter ; Excellent image quality ; Excellent autofocus, and fast image processing ; Advanced shutter with superlow vibration ; Long battery life

Noisy images at high ISO ; Difficulty locking critical focus in portrait shots

Nikon's highest-resolution camera is also one of the best pro DSLRs on the market.
