Philips DVDR985

FireWire and component-video inputs; progressive-scan output; thumbnail menu creation; records motion well.

Unfriendly remote; posterization artifacts.

Though a bit pricey, the DVDR985 is an attractive choice, thanks to its strong features and component-video input.
