With so many quality Blu-ray players making their way to market right now, Denon is in a tough spot with the DVD-1800BD. There are competing units that offer equivalent if not outright better video performance, 5.1/7.1 analog outputs, built-in decoding...

The Denon player does everything I would want it to do. It does not overcomplicate the player, which is a nice change of pace from players that have attempted to add in extra features that don't work properly. With the Denon you know exactly what you...

Excellent 24p movie picture., Numerous picture controls on board., Card reader for photos and MP3 music., Bitstream HDMI output of HD audio.
No connection for BD-Live., Picture-weaknesses in DVD playback., No DTS-HD decoder.
Denon's entry-level model offers multimedia functionality, but buyers will have to live without BD-Live. On the plus side, the numerous picture controls allow fine-tuning of Blu-ray and DVD pictures, but this cannot make up for the weaknesses that the...

The DVD-1800BD is Denon's third Blu-ray player. With an MSRP of $599, it's also the least expensive model that Denon offers, behind the $1,999 DVD-3800BDCI flagship model and $899 DVD-2500BTCI digital-only transport. The DVD-1800BD is a Profile...

It's not the cheapest Blu-ray player, but what does Danny think of Denon's latest entry-level model, the DVD-1800BD.

An 'entry-level' Blu-ray deck that fails to justify its price tag
Good quality HD pictures and sound ; Build quality ; Great features
No BD-Live ; No HD audio decoding
A decent Profi le 1.1 player that offers solid performance, but can't measure up to the all-round greatness of some similarly priced rivals

Like the Onkyo it doesn't offer multichannel analogue outputs or an Ethernet port, the latter highlighting the deck's disappointing Profile 1.1 status. HD audio can be bitstreamed to your amp but PCM is limited to 5.1.
Solid pictures and sound, more attractive than Onkyo
Profile 1.1, no HD audio decoding, disc loading could be faster
