It's no shock that Profile 1.1 players have lost their luster with Profile 2.0 being all the rage, but we figured it prudent to pass along CNET's recent review...

BonusView Blu-ray player has great image and sound quality.
Excellent picture and sound
Slow ; Uncommunicative menus
Those complaints aside, the BDP7200 distinguishes itself by delivering terrific image and audio quality at a comparatively low price. Support for BonusView, too, makes this model a great choice

Philips BDP7200
Unique design; can output Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio in bit-stream format; excellent video quality in 1080p/24 mode; Profile 1.1 compliant
No onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio; subpar image quality on Blu-ray Discs in standard 1080p mode; lacks Profile 2.0 support; no Ethernet jack for firmware upgrades.
The BDP7200 has a unique design and is Profile 1.1 compliant, but subpar Blu-ray image quality and the lack of onboard audio decoding options limit its appeal.

Excellent 24p movie picture., The player comes supplied with an HDMI cable., Bitstream output of HD audio., 7.1 HD-audio decoder and analog 5.1 audio output.
Weaknesses in DVD playback., No picture controls., No BD-Live., Long loading time for Blu-rays.
On this Philips, playback of Blu-ray movies is impressive - quite in contrast to the weak DVD playback, especially with discs that lack a progressive flag. We were, on the other hand, happy to see analog and digital audio outputs, which make the device...

The $399 Philips BDP7200 is a Profile 1.1 player, which means it contains the secondary audio and video decoders needed for picture-in-picture playback. However, it does not support BD-Live Web functionality. The back panel sports the following video...

In a subtle but refreshing departure from the look of your average disc player, Philips' BDP7200 boasts smooth curves, a glossy finish and a large, legible front panel display. Couple that with its consistent, glitch-free disc playback and Profile 1.1...
Speaking of the PS3, it is once again hard to look at a $399 player without drawing comparisons to the venerated game console. Unlike the PS3, the BDP7200 does not have an Ethernet port and it's not compatible with Profile 2.0 features such as BD-Live....

Introduction Philips' first Blu-ray player, the BDP9000, quietly crept into the market in late 2006. Upon its initial release, the player cost $1,000, did not support 1080p/24 output, and lacked any means of passing high-resolution audio formats. The...

When we saw how good the Blu-ray version of 'The Searchers' looked on Philips' $400 BDP7200, we wrote down: "looks like VistaVision" - because that's truly how clear and crisp we found the image.
Minor complaints aside, the Philips BDP7200 distinguishes itself by delivering terrific image and audio quality at a comparatively low price - in the US, at least. Support for BonusView, too, makes this model a great choice, so it may be worth waiting...
