The Samsung BD-D5500 is a capable, full-featured Blu-ray player, but its slow startup time and only-so-so DVD upconversion skills hold it back.
Solid Blu-ray playback. A wide selection of Web apps and streaming services.
Slow to start up and load discs. Mediocre DVD-upconversion performance. No integrated Wi-Fi.

At the CEDIA Expo last fall, the big push for everyone was 3D and online connectivity. We all knew that 3D was going to be everywhere, but also, everyone seemed to have an iPhone or Android Application, and was trying to offer as much online content to...
Overall the Samsung BD-D5500 is a nice Blu-ray player. It performed well on our bench tests and the colorspace data over HDMI was either excellent or very good, though the lack of 4:2:2 support was disappointing. The App system from Samsung was another...

Blu-ray players nowadays do more than play a disc. They are as much about streaming media services as they are about disc playback. Even entry level players like the Samsung BD-D5500 comes networking options and a bevy of features not usually available...
For its asking price the Samsung BD-D5500 packs an awful lot of features and delivers a more than credible performance on 2D and 3D. Furthermore, the wide range of streaming services offered by Samsung’s SmartHub will give you hours of non stop...

Get top-notch Blu-ray playback, 3D, web content and DLNA streaming for peanuts with Samsung's great-value player
Picture quality, Smart Hub, DLNA and 3D support, Two USB ports
Not as well-built or attractive as other Samsung players, No built-in Wi-Fi, No 2D-to-3D conversion

The Samsung BD-D5500 is another great-value Blu-ray player from Samsung
Lots of features ; Terrific pictures ; Smart Hub web content
No built-in Wi-Fi ; Underwhelming build quality ; Lacklustre design

The affordable BD-D5500 is impressive with HD content, but sounds wearing
Ample features and functionality ; can be profoundly impressive with high-def content
Can sound wearing ; not a great upscaler ; streamed content can look iffy
Far from disgraced – it’s four stars, after all – but the competition is unforgiving

The Samsung BD-D5500 is one of the many entry-level Blu-ray levels you'll find in stores offering an easy route into 3D blu-ray playback. The BD-D5500 will play those 3D movies and a healthy range of files formats including DivX HD, MKV, MP3, WMA and...
The Samsung BD-D5500 is more than decent. For a low price you’d be getting a perfectly capable Blu-ray player. The lack of built-in Wi-Fi however is a real kicker. Shop around before committing. Samsung BD-D5500 is tagged with Samsung, BD-D5500,...
