This Blu-ray player is inexpensive, but its image quality and features disappoint.
Very good menus and documentation ; Ethernet port for easy firmware updates
Disappointing picture ; Poor audio quality
At $400, the BDP-1400 remains among the least expensive Blu-ray Disc players available. But other models can offer better value

The Samsung BD-P1400 Blu-ray player offers more robust audio capabilities than similarly priced players, but it's not exactly speedy.
Relatively inexpensive. MP3/JPEG playback from recordable DVD. Support for bitstream audio output (HDMI). Decodes Dolby TrueHD. Online firmware updates.
Sluggish disc load times.

Editors' note June 9, 2008 : The rating of this player has been changed again to reflect changes in the marketplace.
Excellent image quality on Blu-ray movies; outstanding soundtrack support with onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD High Resolution and bitstream output for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio; relatively low price compared to other standalone...
Only Blu-ray Profile 1.0 compliant, so it will not play some bonus features on some new discs in 2008; below-average performance with 1080p output at 24 frames per second; some annoying operational issues.
The Samsung BD-P1400 delivers a mostly capable Blu-ray player at a relatively affordable price, but it's probably still better to hold off for newer models or a PlayStation3.

The BD-P1400 represents a decent Blu-ray player at an attractive price point but a mediocre SD DVD playback device. End users would be better off using a higher quality standalone DVD player for that library or looking at Samsung’s BD-P1200 if SD DVD...

Samsung was the first on the block to release a Blu-ray player with the BD-P1000.
Expert review by : Scott Wilkinson (avguide.com)
Samsung was the first manufacturer to introduce a Blu-ray player in the U.S., so it should come as no surprise that the company is now on its third generation. The BD-P1400 has a lot going for it, and it's tied with the 40GB Sony PS3 as the least...
It is said that practice makes perfect, which is clearly illustrated by the BD-P1400. Okay, so it’s not quite perfect—it does not conform to Full Profile, and the analog audio output leaves something to be desired. But it certainly bests its...

Our review of Samsung BD-P1400, one of the cheapest Blu-Ray players available on the market today.

A cheap Blue-ray disc player
Supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD High Resolution, powers up quickly
Poor audio reproduction, poor colour quality, trouble coping with complex interactive disc features
At $769, the Samsung BD-P1400 remains among the least expensive Blu-ray disc players available. But other models can offer better value.

We ponder the virtues of a Profile 1.0 BD-spinner
Ethernet port ; Stylish design ; Hi-res bitstream audio out
Not Profile 1.1 ; Some 24fps issues
Being Profile 1.0, there's only so much this player can offer, but for those with less cash to spend, this is a great Blu-ray option
