Nexus 5X review

There's a lot to love about the Nexus 5X, but poor battery life bars the affordable phone from our recommended list.

We thought we would adore the Nexus 5X, but so far, we do not recommend it. It is a perfectly good phone in most respects, but is plagued by especially poor battery life that does not last even one full day. Luckily, it has a fast USB Type-C charger,...

Nexus 5X review: Google's triumphant return to smaller, cheaper phones

With a lower price and a smaller form factor, the Nexus 5X signifies Google's return to a more affordable phone that's also friendlier to those with tinier hands. Starting at just $379, the 5X offers a lovely display, a speedy new fingerprint sensor...

Great value for the money ; Quick and accurate fingerprint sensor ; Android 6.0 is a fantastic upgrade ; Compatible with Google's Fi network

Mediocre battery life ; No microSD card slot

For those who yearned for the days of budget- and pocket-friendly Nexus handsets, the 5X is for you. No, it's not quite as premium as its rivals and it doesn't have the higher-end specs of its bigger 6P brother, but it more than makes up for that with...

Google Nexus 5X review: The lightweight, affordable choice for Android purists

This no-frills $379 smartphone is fast, but it may leave you wanting more.

The Google Nexus 5X offers great performance, wide carrier compatibility, great pictures, an excellent fingerprint sensor and a relatively small, lightweight chassis, all for a fairly low price.

Battery life can be a little weak, and the Nexus 5X looks and feels cheap compared to similarly priced phones. The front-facing speaker sounds terrible.

The LG-built Google Nexus 5X is a fantastic pick for people who want a relatively small, lightweight smartphone with excellent value for money.

Nexus 5X review: A solid, no-frills, pure Android experience at an affordable price

This is the upgrade Nexus 5 fans have been waiting for.

Excellent camera ; All-day battery life

Not as fast as some other phones in its price range

The pure Android experience has never been better, and this mid-tier phone is a great showcase for it.

Review: Google Nexus 5X

I'll just put this on the table right now: The Nexus 5X is my new favorite Android phone. It's not huge, which I like. It's also not expensive, which I really like. And despite the fact that it lacks the nicer-on-paper internals of premier devices that...

A thoroughly modern Nexus device for a sensible price. 5.2-inch screen is sharp, vibrant, and just the right size. Same camera as the Nexus 6P; images look boss. Fingerprint sensor on the back is accurate and fast. Unlocked; use it anywhere. Super...

Battery life disappoints. 16GB base config makes me suspect Google and LG are trolling us. USB Type-C charging cable means you now have a drawer full of useless microUSB cables and exactly one cable that works with your new phone. Camera software is slow

If you want the best ‘droid on the market, get the 6P. Even though the 5X is my personal favorite, the 6P is the more powerful phone, and the one better equipped to serve your every need throughout a long and busy day. But if the 6P is too big or too...

Google Nexus 5X (Unlocked)

The unlocked Google Nexus 5X is an affordable plastic alternative to the larger Nexus 6P that trades its premium for better one-handed use.

Good size for one-handed use. Affordable. Fantastic rear camera with excellent low-light capabilities. Reliable fingerprint scanner.

Limited storage capacity. Tinny speaker.

Software and Conclusions The Nexus 5X runs stock Android 6.0 Marshmallow, giving it a lightweight feel, free from the bloatware that plagues just about every non-Nexus Android phone. The 32GB model we tested came with 24.89GB of available storage. You...

Google Nexus 5X review

Striking a nice balance between compact form factor and full features, the Nexus 5X remains a compelling, lighter-weight alternative to bigger Android Marshmallow smartphones like the Nexus 6P and Moto X . Having helped partners make the hardware for...

Google Nexus 5X (16GB, ice)

But we don't know for sure what that means . Will Google make a super-premium device, another Nexus-type phone, or a Tango-style phone or modular device like Project Ara ? HTC is rumored to be hard at work building its next Nexus smartphone for Google...

Nexus 5X review: One for the fans

There's a funny thing about fans (whether they're fans of a sports team, a band, or a particular company or product): they can be hard to please. Google learned this with last year's Nexus 6. It...

One-handed design ; Low price ; Great camera output

Feels cheap ; Can lag at times ; Camera app is disappointing

The Google Nexus 5X Review

Google's first hardware collaboration with LG brought us the Nexus 4 . Like the Nexus 7 , the Nexus 4 followed a philosophy of bringing as much power and quality as possible to a reasonably affordable price point. The Nexus 4 definitely wasn't a...

Ultimately, the Nexus 5X is a true successor to the Nexus 5, and for $379 you really can't go wrong when buying one. You're getting a great display, a great camera, a great fingerprint scanner, good battery life, and a chassis that is most definitely...
