Huawei Mate 20 Smartphone Review

Insider tip. The Huawei Mate 20 is largely identical to its 200-Euro (~$225) more expensive sibling, the Mate 20 Pro. Read on to find out whether the Mate 20 is worth the money and its differences from the Mate 20 Pro.

well-built ; accurate and fast location services ; LTE Cat.16 ; MIMO Wi-Fi ; 3.5 mm jack ; Android 9.0 Pie ; decent call quality ; dual VoLTE ; impressive triple rear-facing cameras ; bright IPS display ; flagship SoC ; long battery life ; quicker...

only IP53-certified ; no wireless charging ; no IR facial recognition ; PWM flicker ; nano-memory card instead of microSD card

The Huawei Mate 20 is a premium flagship just like its more-expensive sibling, the Mate 20 Pro. Huawei has equipped the Mate 20 with its Kirin 980 SoC, which makes the device as powerful as the Pro model. Moreover, the former’s lower resolution display...

Huawei Mate 20 Review

The Mate 20, Huawei's other, more affordable flagship, comes with the same fast, 7nm chip as the Pro version and has most of the tricks of its sibling…

Incredible, 2-day battery life ; Android’s most advanced 7nm chip ; Plentiful 128GB internal storage

Pricey for what it is ; LCD screen is not quite as great as some AMOLEDs ; Camera is just decent, not on par with the best ; Unclear future software update situation ; Gesture navigation is not perfectly polished ; Loudspeaker is too quiet

Huawei Mate 20 Hands-on Review: A Notch Above

The Huawei Mate 20 proves that you can have a notch and make it look good. The triple cameras and 7-nanometer Kirin 980 CPU look good, too.

Huawei Mate 20 smartphones feature triple-cameras, 7nm chips, crazy charging tricks

Huawei's new and smartphones are coming soon, and they'll be some of the first Android devices powered by 7nm processors, Huawei's latest phones with three cameras on the back, and the Pro model includes a couple of nifty new charging features.

Here’s an overview of specs for each model:

Huawei Mate 20 with Kirin 980 processor in the works?

Huawei's new with a triple camera system is a pretty impressive looking device, but it packs the same Kirin 970 processor as last year's smartphones.

Huawei develops the Kirin line of processors in-house, and rumor has it that the new Kirin 980 chip will be manufactured using TSMC’s 7nm technology and feature ARM Cortex-A75 CPU cores, Bluetooth 5.0, and an updated version of Huawei’s NPU, or neural...

Huawei Mate 20 review: everything you need... in XXL

The middle child usually gets the least attention. The same thing happens in the Huawei family. Both the Mate 20 Lite and the Mate 20 Pro have made their presence known, but there's a third new member of the Mate series. It's the one in the middle, but...

Good screen ; Discreet notch ; Good autonomy ; Camera ; Mini-jack port ; EMUI 9.0

Dimensions ; No microSD card ; Fingerprint smudges

I'm not going to beat around the bush: when I like something, I really like it. The Huawei Mate 20 has been an extension of my hand for several weeks now. And I won't trade it in for another device anytime soon. It's dazzled me from the beginning to...

Huawei Mate 20 review

Can a stripped-back flagship really capture enough of the real thing to stand out?

Flagship-grade performance ; Latest version of Android ; Capable, flexible cameras ; Actually has a headphone jack

Outshone by the Mate 20 Pro in almost every way ; Proprietary expandable memory format frustrating ; Limiting choice between models is anti-customer

The Mate 20 does a lot of what makes the Pro so great - but not enough. Unless you're unlucky enough to live somewhere Huawei has deemed the Mate 20 Pro to be off-limits, this isn't the version to buy.

Huawei Mate 20 review

It's Mating season!

Excellent battery life ; Incredible power for the price ; Versatile stills and video camera

Full HD+ screen resolution is low ; IPS screen inferior to flagship AMOLEDs ; No IP68 water and dust resistance

The Huawei Mate 20 distills much of what makes the Mate 20 Pro an excellent phone into something that’s different, though not necessarily inferior. It costs less, offers more screen and has a headphone jack. If you crave the cutting-edge bells and...

Huawei Mate 20 review: Hands on with the bigger but less sophisticated Mate 20

Cut-down Mate 20 Pro gets a slightly under-specified triple camera but a bigger screen

But for canny internet buyers who may not be able to afford the Mate 20 Pro, the Mate 20 looks like it could provide a tempting, more affordable alternative. All we need now is for Huawei to change its mind and launch it officially in the UK.
