Sony's A7R III mirrorless can take anything you throw at it

Sony's A7R III handles landscapes, action and video with aplomb.

Its only real rival is the superb Nikon D850, and which you choose may depend on whether you prefer mirrorless or DSLR. DP Review called them "genuinely two of the best cameras the world has ever seen."

Sony A7R Mark III hands-on review

With big improvements to battery life and performance, Sony's A7R Mark III is a worthy successor.

42.4MP full-frame sensor ; 10 FPS burst shooting ; Vastly improved battery life ; Improved image stabilization ; Improved AF performance

No “anti-distortion shutter” rating ; Burst mode limits compressed RAWs to 12-bit

Sony a7R III

The a7R III takes Sony's proven high-resolution full-frame mirrorless camera and improves upon its speed, autofocus system, and video capabilities.

Proven 42MP full-frame sensor. Improved processor and autofocus system. 10fps image capture with tracking. Silent shooting option. Tilting touch LCD. Dual card slots. Larger battery than a7R II.

Only one card slot supports UHS-II speeds. No built-in flash. Can't start video until image buffer is cleared. Dense menu system.

The a7R III doesn't offer increased resolution when compared with its predecessor, but that doesn't mean it's not a serious upgrade. It takes a sensor that's already proven to deliver excellent performance and ekes a bit more dyanmic range out of it,...

Sony a7R Mark III review

Sony's a7R Mark III shoots 42.4MP files at 10fps and incorporates a robust video feature set, large battery, refined ergonomics and more. It certainly looks impressive, but what is it like to use, and how does it stack up against the rest of the...

At its core, the a7R III can be seen as a mashup of the best parts of its predecessor, the a7R II, and Sony's sports-shooting flagship a9. As with Nikon's D850 for DSLR users, the a7R III has the potential to be a 'Goldilocks' camera for those looking...

Sony Alpha 7R III, IIIA Review

After finishing the Sony a9 review, I stated "As I go back to my Sony a7R II to continue work on the Sony lens reviews , I'm left feeling in want." I was still happy with the s7R II's resolution and dynamic range, but I definitely wanted some of the...

Sony A7R III Review

The A7R III is the most well-balanced Sony camera to date, offering a compelling mix of resolution, speed and size that also makes it one of the best cameras that we've ever reviewed, be that mirrorless or DSLR.

Sony A7R III Review

The Sony A7R III sees improvements in pretty much every area: physical design features, image quality, speed and performance, as well as video recording capabilities and battery life.

Fantastic image quality; Improved dynamic range over its predecessor; Very good high ISO performance; Much improved real-world AF performance; Class-leading burst rates, even with RAW; Improved 5-axis in-body image stabilization; Better 4K video...

Expensive; Menus still confusing; UHS-II support only on one card slot; No optical low-pass filter means greater risk of moire; No built-in flash; Buffer clearing still slow despite UHS-II support.

The Sony A7R III sees improvements in pretty much every area: physical design features, image quality, speed and performance, as well as video recording capabilities and battery life. The A7R III remains a top-notch camera for pixel-peepers, capturing...

Sony A7R III review

It may be three years old, but is the 42.4MP Sony A7R III still a powerhouse performer?

Still has superb resolution ; Especially with pixel shift ; 10fps continuous shooting

4K is getting creaky ; LCD is quite low res

When it launched in 2017, the Sony A7R III was unrivaled in its power and versatility. However, even though the market has caught up with its specs, it remains a powerhouse to this day, with near-medium format resolution packed into a sleek, stabilized...
