Sony Alpha 3000

The mirrorless Sony Alpha 3000 cuts a lot of corners to hit its low $400 asking price, but there are no compromises in image quality.

Inexpensive. SLR-like design. Built-in EVF. Built-in flash. Short shutter lag. Focus peaking. 1080i60 video capture. Excellent image quality at high ISOs.

No eye sensor. Low-resolution EVF and rear LCD. Limited burst shooting.

The Alpha 3000 does support peaking as a manual focus aid; that system outlines in-focus parts of an image in red, yellow, or white to make manual focus quicker and more precise. But if you're serious about using the EVF, you'll be better suited with...

Sony Alpha A3000 review

Despite being one of the few growing segments of the digital camera market, mirrorless versions of interchangeable-lens cameras still don't get no respect. For one, there's a perception in some quarters that they don't produce the same image quality as...

With an attractive $400 (or less) price, the Sony Alpha A3000 delivers excellent photo quality for the money.

It's slow, with a poor LCD and only slightly better EVF. Plus Sony doesn't include a charger, which may be an issue for some folks.

If you're just looking for better photo quality than a point-and-shoot on a really tight budget, but not better performance, the Sony Alpha A3000 meets that criterion.

Sony A3000 First Impressions Review

Sony's taking a different approach to the consumer interchangeable lens market with the A3000, essentially a 20.1MP APS-C mirrorless camera that uses the same E-mount as the Sony NEX line, yet which has the look and feel of a traditional SLR. Though...

Sony A3000

A DSLR-style camera for just £350 sounds like a great idea, is it?

Light body, Intelligent control layout familiar from the NEX system

Slow AF system, Poor specification, Sub-standard build quality

Sony Alpha 3000 review

Mix the build of a DSLT and the NEX E-Mount and you get the Alpha 3000

APS-C size sensor ; EVF ; Affordable

Poor screen ; Disappointing EVF

Sony has produced another good camera in the shape of the a3000. It's not hugely exciting, but it's not meant to be. It produces excellent image quality and is available at an enticingly low price point.
