Parrot's MiniDrone Jumping Sumo is a lot of leaping, rolling, spinning fun

If quadcopters aren't you're thing, the two-wheeled Jumping Sumo is a fun smartphone accessory with a camera that gives you a new perspective on your surroundings.

The Parrot MiniDrone Jumping Sumo is a fun, two-wheeled rover with a camera that streams a first-person view for piloting through your environment with a smartphone or tablet. The camera can also capture low-res photos and video.

Video capture is limited to VGA resolution and requires a Micro-USB thumb drive for storage. Battery life is "up to" 20 minutes, and the battery is charged in the Sumo and takes about 90 minutes to top off. Wi-Fi connection can be temperamental.

The Parrot MiniDrone Jumping Sumo gives you a ground-level look at your environment as it spins and jumps at your command.

Review: Parrot's Jumping Sumo minidrone

With all the interest surrounding aerial drones of late, it might seem like a step backwards for Parrot to come out with a quirky two-wheeled vehicle that rolls around on the floor. But after spending some time with its new, spring-loaded minidrone, we...

The Jumping Sumo has a top speed of 7 km/h (4.5 mph), with a slider on the left of screen to control acceleration and braking. Steering, however, does get a little bit trickier. There are buttons for 90 and 180 degree turns when at a standstill, but to...

The word "drone" at this point probably conjures up images of unmanned aerial vehicles conducting military airstrikes or multirotor aircraft for aerial photography or delivering packages.

Very good

This is an awesome toy. I love driving it around the house, jumping sofas and tables. It's been communicating with my iPhone via WiFi perfectly. Battery life is not my favorite, but hopefully a spare battery & a charger set will fix it. I'd recommend...

Love it!

This is an amazing toy, I love it. Learning how to pilot it wasn't hard, but it can do a lot of fun tricks and that took a bit of time to learn. Still, practicing it is great fun. It can jump and flip and spin, and it upsets my cat because it's so...

Great item

Lots of fun. It's very different from other remote controlled rovers I had experience with. The jumping ability is just impressive. I also love the first person view, it gives you the impression of playing a video game in real life.

Impressive jumping ability. Camera. FPV.

The manual is a little light on instructions.
