Sony LF-V30 LocationFree TV review: Sony LF-V30 LocationFree TV

Sony LF-V30 LocationFree TV

Streams video sources, including live TV, to any broadband-connected Windows PC or PSP in the world; no host PC or monthly charges required; accepts HD component video signals; built-in wireless networking includes the ability to act as a full-service...

Setup and installation is still too convoluted for most users, especially for wireless networks; support for Mac and Windows Mobile software is handled by third parties (not Sony) that haven't updated the software in a long time; additional software...

Sony's latest LocationFree TV product adds compatibility with HD video sources, but its two big distinguishing factors--built-in wireless networking and PSP compatibility--aren't enough for most users to choose it over the competing Slingbox.

Review: Sony LocationFree LF-V30

Like the Slingbox, Sony's LocationFree LF-V30 streams A/V to any computer at home or abroad, because there's plenty of good TV during work hours. Setting...

Three video input types (composite, component, and S-video) insures compatibility to most cable/satellite boxes, DVRs, and DVD players. Wired and wireless connectivity

Downreszing HD to SD is just cruel, even if remote viewing is cool. And unless you’re on a fairly beefy computer, your viewing experience may be replete with stuttering video

"This unit does a nice job compressing the video and delivering it through the internet. While not a HD picture by any means it looks good on the laptop. It has a bunch of remotes to chose from when you set it up, so when you use the on screen remote...

Allows you to stream your video DVR etc over the internet

Not Worth The monehy

"Device must be remotely hooked up to either the cable box or one of the devices subsequent to the cable box. It takes your original TV out of use. Whatever you are watching on the computer must also be what is being watched on the TV at home. If...

"This product terminates too often and always at the worst times, volume too low and cannot control volume from remote. Can only use on one computer at a time, cannot share with family. Bad purchase, not worth the money."
