AKG K701 HEADPHONES

The AKG K701 are comfortable and breathable critical listening headphones with a great sound quality. Unfortunately, they do not have a detachable or spare cable like the or the K712 Pro. They're also not meant for outdoor use so they have poor...

Excellent audio reproduction. ; Comfortable design.

Very sensitive to ambient noise, by design. ; Open-back design, so they leak a lot. ; Big and bulky headphones.

AKG K701Headphone

The AKG K701s are a mid-range set of cans that see wide use in the DJ and mixer community. With a flat frequency response and wide open soundstage, it's not hard to see why. Though these cans aren't as good as studio monitor speakers, they will work in...

Solid frequency response ; Comfortable to wear

Lack of isolation ; Not portable whatsoever

Great for the audiophile who prizes the analytical sound, and has a powerful amp.

AKG K701

Despite being a few years old, they still hold up against newer, more modern headphones

Solid frequency response; Comfortable to wear

Lack of isolation; Not portable whatsoever

Though the purpose of this review was more to build a bank of headphones to compare open-backed cans to compare to in the future, the AKG K701 introduced in 2007 are still impressive to this day. With a great frequency response, extremely comfortable...

AKG K701 Headphones

Magnificent tonal balance that rivals some very high-end loudspeakers. Let's you hear every last little thing on the recording. Powerful bass that is very well controlled. Sit perfectly on your head and just vanish

Lacks a deep bottom end. Needs a high quality headphone amplifier and source to really strut its stuff. Takes weeks of constant use before it is broken-in. Might not be the ideal headphone for rock music

One of the top 3 headphones currently available at a price that is affordable. Music flows out of these and is incredibly transparent sounding. Paired with the right amplifier, it is as good as audio reproduction gets using headphones.

AKG Acoustics K701 Premium Class Reference…

If a slicker and more comfortable pair of over-the-head earcups has been developed, we haven't seen them: the k701 Premium Class Reference Earphones won our earbud-toting editors over. Silky smooth, detailed sound leans warm, but lets highs pop and...

Did you find that they performed well without an amplifier? The impedance seems significantly higher than most headphones designed for portables

AKG Acoustics K701

Incredible sound

Great treble notes, incredibly smooth sound, detailed mid-range, tight bass

Bass doesn't extend as deeply as on some competing units, requires an amplifier to get the full sound

AKG's K701 headphones are some of the best on the market. They aren't as bass-heavy as some of their competition but the low-range notes are still impressive and when combined with the detailed mid-range and sweet highs, you get a fantastic, smooth...

AKG K701

These AKGs are for detail fanatics: they offer staggeringly good insight for the money

Impressively analytical sound; build and comfort are both top class

Some offer a little more outright excitement
