Harman-Kardon AVR-355 review

There's stiff competition at this level of the AV receiver market, so can Harman Kardon's latest offering keep up with the pack?

Neat, design ; great graphical menus ; solid sound, rich midrange ; iPod dock comes as standard

A touch bright at the top end ; lacks clarity, detail and dynamic clout compared to class-leaders

The AVR 355 sounds capable in isolation, but it's found wanting when compared to the very best around this price point

Harman Kardon AVR 355

Tailored towards the casual listener rather than Harman Kardon's usual hi-fi customers, the AVR 355 is solid, with great features, but somehow lacking.

Great home theatre sound ; A-BUS simplifies multi-room set-up ; 1080p upscaling ; DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD decoding

Pushes simulated surround over stereo sound ; No "source direct" capability ; Maddening controls ; Complicated set-up ; Video issues

Conclusion We like this receiver, it sounds great, and has top-notch cosmetics — but it's not without its problems. Namely, Harman Kardon's too intent on pushing its own Logic 7 technology down your throat. And the unit's inability to downscale without...

Harman Kardon AVR 355 and DVD 39

If you have a flat panel TV and you are looking for sexiest receiver and DVD player to sit on the stand beneath it, then look no further.

Don't completely agree with the main review, I found the setup very simple and the on screen menu's are excellent.

Good AVR, zone 2 limits

Fine sounding piece of equipment which handles AV nicely as well. Very disappointed zone 2 will only accept analogue input. Seems strange but there are other brands with the same limitation. Surround sound is good from this unit but I bought this to...

Sound clarity and power

Can crash and require restarting when changing input source

Very Happy

I have been using the AVR 355 for over a year now. Awesome power more than stated in the books. The unit cosmetically is excellent and it is very easy to use. The only let down I would say it reverts to pre settings for movies. Apart from that do not...

Awesome power and clarity
