harman/kardon HK 3490 Stereo Receiver Review

The harman/kardon HK 3490 redefined the modern stereo receiver and set the benchmark for others to follow. Stereo lovers rejoice as I don't believe you can find a better sounding stereo receiver.

Benchmark audio performance ; Digital audio inputs ; Oodles of power reserves

Cheesy tone and balance control knobs ; Difficult to read frontpanel function buttons ; Remote not backlit

Harman Kardon HK 3490

Powerful and stylish stereo receiver.

Powerful, clean amplification, great looks

No universal remote

If you need a powerful stereo audio receiver, then look no further than the HK 3490. Teamed up with some capable floor-standing speakers it’s able to reproduce high-quality audio with no flaws whatsoever.

Solid Stereo Reciever

For old-school stereo setups it would be hard to beat this unit at this price. Lots of power, beautiful looks, tons of inputs, and super-clean sound. One fellow gave it one egg since it did not have HDMI inputs--it's not that kind of product. If your...

High Power ; Digital Input ; Great Sound ; Lots of inputs including phono ; Remote ; Looks great

Somewhat large ; Odd display dimming when Video input selected ; Note: NOT an AV (HDMI) Reciever ; Limited EQ

Harman Kardon HK 3490

This is a great stereo receiver, lots of power, offers nice input options including 2 digital inputs. Music sounds great through this receiver. I also have my cable box hooked up and the DSP options are nice while watching TV ; I really like this...

One minor con is that in order to use the digital inputs, you also need to connect the corresponding analog connections

It goes to 11

Buy it now. Stop wasting time.

I was looking for a reciever to get back into listening to vinyl while still having the ability to listen to some movies in the man cave. This fit the bill perfectly. The records sound awesome and definitely better than any low bit rate cr** on a flash...

It's really fricking loud not a con at all. It will peave people off even when it's located in a basement surronded by cinder blocks

Impressive

I would recommend this receiver to anyone looking for a great quality 2 channel stereo. Don't buy it for the video, it doesn't even have HDMI.

Sounds amazing paired with the Polk Audio Monitor 70's I bought a few weeks ago. I bought it for an audio only system. Most powerful stereo amp available. Its simplistic, powerful, and has more than enough features, although I really could go without...

Has component video inputs. Really? Why ; Remote is large and unwieldy, but does the job I guess
