My God! It's full of buttons!
When we get information about a new receiver, we're often hesitant. We know the manufacturer is going to try to impress us and consumers. Many times they do but sometimes they don't. The Onkyo TX-NR809 surely is an impressive receiver for the price....

The Onkyo TX-NR809 network receiver was announced in May of this year, and right away, it made me salivate. Having both reviewed and owned several Onkyo receiver models over the last few years, I have come to expect an excellent product that is both...
The Onkyo TX-NR809 is a fantastic value in its class. It offers excellent performance and a bevy of features that will make any home theater enthusiast happy. An MSRP of $1,099 may sound high, but when you consider that it can take the place of at...

So many ways to customize this receiver to our exact needs!, So many ports!, Outstanding audio and video hardware onboard, So many digital music options, online and locally, Broad complement of Audyssey and Dolby enhancements, including configurable...
No AirPlay, Twitchy iPod/iPhone connectivity, Deep menus and sub-menus can sometimes be non-intuitive
Calling these my "final" musings on the subject would be somewhat disingenuous, as I plan to bite the bullet and buy my very own TX-NR809 receiver and make it a permanent, central part of my home theater rig. Based on what I've seen/heard it do, and...

The receiver is an excellent product and it has worked fine until last month. I contacted ServiceNet for the repair and they told me it was a depo item. I had to ship it to United Radio in NY and they email me stating "Is your unit under warranty". My...

Was very good while it worked
This is the second Onkyo receiver to fail (HDMI audio fails to start) in 3 years. I would stay away from Onkyo. This one failed precisely 3 weeks afer my 2 year waranty expired

The Onkyo remote app (which can control this receiver) has gotten much better with the second version. It is easier to navigate the streaming music options as well as controlling zone2 and zone 3 sources. I really do feel this is still a good purchase...
The audio quality of this amplifier is quite outstanding. The receiver is pretty heavy too, weighing in at a about 40 pounds. The front high/wide speakers are not necessary but worth setting up if you have the room and extra speakers to give it a try....
The remote control can be confusing to use at times since a single button may serve multiple functions depending on what you are currently doing with the receiver. It also is not fully back lit, so trying to use it in a dark room while watching a movie...
