It is easy to get excited about the $1000 TX-NR717 until you see what the extra $200 for the TX-NR818 gets you. Audyssey XT32, 13.5 extra pounds and 25 extra watts per channel, and lots more.

Onkyo's feature-packed AV amp is an absolute knockout
Extensive network features ; Potent movie sound ; Excellent picture processing ; Top-drawer build quality
No AirPlay support
Also on the back are eleven sturdy binding posts. These include terminals for the front, centre, surround and surround back channels, as well as front wide and front height channels for the built-in Dolby Pro Logic IIz, Audyssey DSX and DTS Neo:X...

Impressive power, features and functionality from this new Onkyo receiver
Solid build ; looks good in silver ; thorough specification ; eight HDMI inputs ; good picture processing ; powerful yet refined sound ; fine sense of scale
Unintuitive control app
A fine AV amp with features aplenty, capable of impressive power and sonic presence

Home cinema audio is often neglected, with TVs getting all the attention. The truth is though, that you could spend less on a TV and more on your audio system and have a more enjoyable experience. After all, most of the problem with TV and movies come...
Movie and TV soundtracks are brilliantly rendered, music sounds fantastic, some great online features, Android and iPhone apps,
Expensive, Onkyo just keep making better ones, menus can be slow and text input is a pain
Onkyo continues its yearly rampage of home AV. The 818 is brilliant, and the best-sounding AVR we've ever heard from the company. We're a little weary of saying this, but we honestly think this £1.000 model outperforms Onkyo's own £2.000 receiver from...

Does the NR818 explain why Onkyo are so dominant in the receiver market?
Excellent sound quality ; Comprehensive connections ; Impressive video processing ; Attractive design ; Superb build quality ; Flexible setup and configuration ; Good internet and networking features
No 4K pass-through ; No multi-channel analogue inputs ; Remote app needs work ; No built-in WiFi ; Front display can't be turned off ; No backlight on remote control

The Onkyo TX-NR818 is a powerful AV receiver, with some impressive options
Consumer review (newegg.com)
Still an exceptional product.... just wish that it could have internal circuitry to convert digital signals down to analog as well considering it is necessary for some external functions.
Upconvert, power, clarity, input sectability, etc
Main issue I have come across has to do with down conversion and outsourcing to tertiary receivers. No optical out, and zones 2 and 3 only output line OR powered if there is an analog audio connection on that input. You can sort of trick it by...
Consumer review (newegg.com)
I purchased the Onkyo TX NR818 due to its mass amounts of features it has at this sale price. I dare you to find another receiver at this price with something even close to these specs. Setting and configuring up is a breeze using the onscreen guide. I...

Consumer review (newegg.com)
Just an upddate to the review I made before where I complained about image picture stuttering - Onkyo finally released a firmware update and fixed it. Apparently receiver was switching to a strange 24 fps mode instead of 23.976 (anytime you reffer to...
