Audio Performance Video Performance Features
Onkyo may or may not be the actual market leader in audio/video receivers, measured by unit sales, dollars, or any other B-school metric you care to name. But I’m fairly certain that, year in, year out, they produce more new AVR models combining...

Dolby Atmos lifts the THX-specified Onkyo TX-NR838 receiver to the next level
Comprehensive connectivity ; Wide format compatibility ; Ace sound from all 7 channels
Auto setup is not foolproof ; 7.1.2 not possible ; Auto setup is not foolproof

A most commendable amplifier, but not quite an all-rounder.
Good effects steering Fluid presentation Extensive feature set
Needs more attack and edge definition
The Onkyo TX-NR838 is a comprehensive AV receiver. It has an unbelievable number of features that cater for all reasonable AV needs, and even looks to the future. It’s really quite surprising this box isn’t a lot bigger. The sound is impressive too,...

With apologies to Tom Cruise, welcome to the edge of tomorrow.
Immersive Dolby Atmos performance; four 4K 60fps inputs; good network specification with Bluetooth; HDCP 2.2 copy protection
No support for dual-band 5.6 GHz Wi-Fi; Dolby Atmos configuration takes time to tune; you’ll need to sacrifice conventional 7.1 to go 5.1.2

Will continue to deal with Newegg and OneCall as my sources for computer hardware and audio components whenever I can.
Receiver was sold and shipped by OneCall...a great company. Shipping was super fast...on my doorstep on the third day. As for the receiver, it's an Onkyo. I bought an Onkyo TX-NR 901 from OneCall in 2004 and got 11 years of flawless service and GREAT...
The USB menu on the receiver is cumbersome, to say the least. But overall, it's insignificant. It's much easier to connect through the AUX inputs or through HDMI and navigate via my laptop. Otherwise, Onkyo products have always served me well.

There are no pros to going with onkyo. Google what has happened with all of their previous receiver models
No sound comes out of all units after a very short time. Good luck getting it fixed

Very Happy with the Receiver I'm getting great sound from Pandora via the Net which is a plus. And the audio and video is outstanding .
Great A/V Receiver Does a very good job with the sound and video. Connected with my network w/out a problem and has successfully reconnected whenever I have turned it back on. Installation was easy when you are using only HDMI cables. I did connect up...
Only thing I was not able to hook up to it was a very old cassette player which I do not use any more so not really a con.
Consumer review (newegg.com)
I have always owned Onkyo receivers and have had good luck, but this receiver was release with bugs in my opinion. Definitely not ready for prime-time. Another think I didn't like was how out-of-date the menu system was. There was hardly any noticeable...
Has everything you can ask for (4k, HDMI 2.0, Pre-outs, Dolby Atmos (with upcoming firmware release), wireless, Bluetooth, tons of inputs)
First thing, the ethernet port stopped could get an IP from my router. Worst yet, every time I connected to the router it crashed my router. I even tried a different router--same results. Second issue is that screen will sometimes flicker in and out...
