An affordable way to try out Dolby Atmos at home
Easy to set up and use Decent sound performance Clear markings for 5.1 and 7.1 channel use Rear speakers can be used as A/B instead of surround Automatic setup with included microphone Great pricing for the features
Most speaker terminals use spring clips Lacks Wi-Fi or ethernet connectivity Poor user interface No phono input
The Sony STR-DH790 is a highly capable 7.2 channel receiver that’s perfect for home theater newbies and anyone looking to put together a decent setup on the cheap.

Sony's STR-DH790 is a sensibly-equipped receiver for someone seeking entry-level surround at this level.
Good sound performance Bluetooth with AAC Lowish entry cost
Spring-clip speaker terminals Not rated to drive four-ohm loudspeakers No networking or AM
If the inputs suffice and the spring-clips don’t deter, then Sony’s STR-DH790 is a sensibly-equipped receiver suitable for someone seeking surround at this level, and especially so in combination with other Sony gear.

I am very pleased with my purchase. I use Richer sounds for all my electronics stuff and would highly recommend.

Bought to replace an 8 year old Marantz unit. This works much more cleverly with Samsung TV and Sony BDP and I particularly like the USB power supply which I use for a Chromecast. Runs cool which is great as my gear is inside a Frank Olsen cabinet.

I bought this around a month ago and am extremely happy, paired with Q Acoustics 3030i plus centre speaker. (Svs sub to comr) So far it's brilliant, even with just front speakers the surround it produces in DSurround mode is unreal.

I purchased to replace an older sony sound surround system. All went well except no sound from the sub woofer. It turns out you must have a active sub woofer not passive. Never saw this in any info I had seen.

Our old Onkyo gave up the ghost so opted for this unit. Compared to others in the market place, was a tad dubious to how it would work due to its price ... Worries Over. Easy to set up using old wiring sytem (5.1 surround) to Kef speakers. Options...

We purchased a receiver from Richer Sounds and luckily the team had it ready to deliver to us within a week. The support team at the Chiswick branch were very helpful and highly professional.

Bought this unit to replace my old trusty STA-DA5700ES. What a disappointment, Pitiful programming GUI. Lots of missing functions (Where's the test tone, phase detection?) Signal drop out when connected to Sky Q, very , very poor, DO NOT BUY !!!. Sent...
