When ASUS formally unveiled the Transformer Book Chi T300, it did so in the cheekiest way possible: with a cleverly worded swipe at Apple. "Our Chi is thinner...
On paper, the Transformer Book Chi T300 is a good deal for what it is: $899 (or less) for a super-thin tablet with a sharp screen that accepts pen input, and a keyboard dock that actually comes in the box at no extra charge ( ahem , Microsoft). Still,...

The Asus T300 Chi hits the mark with a full size detachable keyboard and beautiful display.
The Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi represents the latest evolution in the company’s long-running line of detachable notebooks, which started with Android systems several years ago. Practice has helped refine the formula into a thin, yet functional,...

The pricey Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi is a very thin, elegant-looking detachable-hybrid tablet that makes some major concessions in the name of portability.

Svelte chassis. Clamshell mode is balanced. Screen's magnetic latch and hinge are very stable. Fanless design, thanks to Intel Core M processor. Performance similar to that of a Core i5-equipped tablet
Micro ports mean dongles for everything. Can't charge tablet via USB. Bluetooth keyboard needs to be charged separately. Short depth on trackpad. AC adapter's barrel connector fits in headset jack. Hidden media card slot. Bloatware
Detachable-hybrid tablets are your best choice if you need a laptop most of the time, but also need a tablet on occasion. The Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi ($899 as tested) has a magnetic latch on its keyboard dock, so you can undock the tablet...

Take a look at the side profile of your laptop. Chances are, it's anywhere from a half an inch to an inch thick, replete with a handful of USB ports, a power plug, headphone jack, and maybe an SD...
It's really thin! ; Solid build quality ; Fast performance
Below average battery life ; Trackpad is too small ; Connecting anything requires an adapter ; Keyboard hinge doesn't rotate far enough

The T300 Chi makes good use of Intel's Core M processor, but is sometimes awkward to use.
The Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi makes good use of Intel's low-power Core M processor, and includes a keyboard dock that works attached or remotely. The screen has a better-than-HD resolution.
Performance and battery life is still not on par with what other slim hybrids and laptops deliver. Some design quirks, such as a poorly placed power button, can get in the way.
This good-looking fanless hybrid works as a slim Windows tablet or an ultra-portable laptop, but still suffers from the same awkward marriage of base and screen as many hybrids.

Running a finger along the top edge of the 12.5-inch display, a small ridge about an inch long brushed against my finger. That was the culprit. When the display and keyboard base of the T300 Chi are assembled into its clamshell laptop form, the...

One minute the Asus Transformer Book T300 is a Windows 8 laptop, but the next minute it's a Windows 8 tablet.
