ASUS Transformer Book review: meet ASUS' first detachable Ultrabook

More InfoASUS announces line of Transformer BooksASUS Transformer Book shows sudden sign of life: 13-inch Core i5 model coming to Japan this

Lovely 1080p IPS display ; Comfortable keyboard ; Fast boot-up, resume times ; Keyboard dock has a spare battery, hard drive

Heavy for a 13-inch touchscreen Ultrabook ; Launching with a year-old CPU

The Transformer Book was an innovative concept when it was first announced a year ago. But now that it's finally shipping with old components, you're better off waiting for a possible Haswell refresh.

Asus Transformer Book TX300C

The Asus Transformer Book TX300C looks great, combining a well-designed laptop with a high-performance tablet, but it has some quirks that can't be ignored.

Gorgeous 1080p touch screen. Intel Core i7-3517U processor adds oomph. Extra battery adds stamina.

Finicky dock connector. Diminished performance on battery power.

While there are plenty of things to like about the Asus Transformer Book TX300C—like a beautiful 1080p touch screen, a long-lasting dual-battery setup, and a powerful Core i7 processor—there were still a few problems. The touchy docking connection made...

Asus aims for a high-end hybrid with the Transformer Book TX300

Adding a Core i7 CPU, 1080p screen, and dual hard drives makes this a very versatile laptop/tablet.

The ; is a rare hybrid with a Core i7 CPU, a high-res screen, and smart dual hard drives -- there's an SSD in the tablet half, and a larger hard drive in the keyboard base.

The system is awkwardly top-heavy, and you feel as if you're fighting the touch pad at every turn.

Asus adds a lot of what I've been looking for in a hybrid to the Transformer Book, but no one has yet really nailed the perfect laptop/tablet combo.

Review Asus Transformer Book TX300CA Convertible

Big screen tablet. Smartphones are growing so browsing and gaming becomes more pleasant. Tablets are growing so we can work more productively and performantly. Is Asus heading in the right direction?

High-grade aluminum stability, Concept with much memory space (HDD in dock), Mode: dock serves as energy filling station, Color-intensive IPS panel, Low system noise, Optically speaking nearly a real notebook, Good keyboard, Many connections incl....

High weight, USB ports too close to each other, Core i7 clearly below standard, Throttled HD 4000, Longer battery runtimes. We expect more of two batteries than 3:34 to 5:42 hours (WLAN browsing; notebook mode off/on)

ASUS Transformer Book TX300CA

Equally good as a tablet and a laptop. Superb full HD display, attractive all-metal casing, secondary HDD in dock, good selection of ports

Tablet and keyboard dock weigh 4.2 lbs., which is a bit heavy for a 13" Ultrabook. Battery life just OK

The Asus Transformer Book TX300 is the best Windows 8 transformer to date. Granted, at $1,499 for the high end model we tested, it should be great. The IPS display is simply stunning and the machine is quite fast. It has the excellent build quality and...

Asus Transformer Book TX300 review – the HYBRID

The Asus Transformer Book TX300 is a versatile machine, capable to go as a Windows 8 tablet or as a regular laptop. It meets most of my expectations, although there are still things to brush for the next generation. But if you're after a hybrid, you...

IPS screen, powerful hardware, good build quality, good keyboard and trackpad, fair battery life

some light bleeding on the screen, the hinge does not grip the tablet properly, rather large and heavy for a 13 incher

Anyway, as we draw closer to the end of our review, I believe some of you might find the Transformer Book as the next step for laptops. You get all the power and the features of a laptop, but you also get to detach the, let’s call it “screen”, and end...

Asus Transformer Book TX300 review

A well-built machine with bags of power and a unique twist

Great keyboard ; Easy to switch between laptop and tablet ; Decent performance ; Good battery life

Last-gen processor ; Very heavy ; Slightly ungainly tablet ; Buggy performance

The Asus Transformer Book TX300 is a well-built machine with bags of power and a unique twist. It's one of our favourite hybrid devices, because usability isn't hobbled by the impossible dream of fulfilling both laptop and tablet uses.

Asus Transformer Book TX300CA Review

The core strength of Windows 8 lies in its touch-driven Modern UI and the only way to experience it is on a Windows 8 tablet, which are quite rare in our market. Windows RT tablets are pretty pointless since you're restricted to Modern apps with no...

Asus Transformer Book TX300 Review

Is the ASUS Transformer the World's first proper 'Laptab' or should that be 'Tablap'?

Fully detachable screen ; Good build quality ; Fast 128GB SSD ; Dual storage with 500GB HDD

Expensive ; Poor touch pad ; Only two speakers ; Speakers not in the best position for landscape use
