ASUS Transformer Pad TF701T review: Full throttle

From the makers of the Nexus 7, which pretty much got Android back in the tablet game, a convertible 10.1" slate is ready to step out of the living room and shake off the stay-at-home, only-good-for-media-consumption image of ten-inchers.

10.1" LED-backlit IGZO Super IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, 16M colors, 300ppi pixel density ; Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box ; 1.9 GHz quad-core Cortex-A15 CPU, 72-core ULP GeForce GPU, 2GB of RAM,...

No 3G, LTE ; Mobile dock feels a bit flimsy ; Bigger and heavier than its rivals ; Proprietary 32-pin connector ; Disappointing audio quality

Asus Transformer Pad TF701T review

My initial reaction to seeing the Asus Transformer Pad TF701T for the first time was disappointment. The tablet looks and feels like the Transformer Prime , which game out two years ago, and I'm surprised Asus hasn't made any significant design changes...

The Asus Transformer Pad TF701T has great gaming performance, useful app extras, a sharp screen, and a microSD storage expansion option.

The tablet is unnecessarily large and seems like an outdated design. The screen's color gamut is limited and cameras produce grainy, unbalanced images. The keyboard dock feels cramped to type on.

Despite its bulky design, the Asus Transformer Pad TF701T is one of the best 10-inch Android tablet values available, but it's worth your time to also look closely at its competition.

Asus Transformer Pad TF701

The Asus Transformer Pad TF701 Android tablet combines a stunning display and impressive performance, but its productivity pitch loses out to more capable and even cheaper Windows alternatives available.

Gorgeous display. Solidly built. Optional keyboard dock. Excellent performance

Proprietary dock connector. Weak multitasking. Disappointing battery life

The Asus Transformer line was the first to make a case for productivity-focused Android tablets. Their excellent keyboard docks and reliably speedy performance made them nice alternatives to sluggish netbooks or expensive laptops. But the mobile...

All-inclusive. Asus continuously refreshes its Transformer Pad series. The new Transformer Pad TF701T is a high-resolution 10-inch tablet that is supposed to compete with notebooks. It is equipped with a powerful Tegra 4 SoC clocked at 1.9 GHz, 32 GB...

Asus Transformer Pad TF701T review: A productive Android tablet/keyboard combo

The 10.1-inch Android-based Transformer Pad TF701T has a decent specification, including a quad-core processor, a high-resolution screen and good battery life from its tablet and keyboard batteries. The design could use a refresh though.

Excellent 10.1-inch screen ; USB 3.0 port, plus SD and MicroSD slots ; Tablet and keyboard batteries deliver long life

Top-heavy build ; Proprietary power connector ; No mobile broadband option

The Asus Transformer Pad TF701T takes the winning hybrid laptop/tablet design of its first Transformer tablet and updates the specs and display. Design-wise, it flaunts the same aluminum back with concentric ring pattern as its predecessors. Although...

Asus Transformer Pad TF701T Review: Premium Specs, Premium Price, Budget Battery Life

The Transformer TF701T has a very premium feel in the hands. It's largely metal, seems sturdy, and the weight is evenly distributed. However, it's a little on the heavy side at 1.3 lbs, and the metal back does get uncomfortably warm during prolonged...

ASUS Transformer Pad TF701T - Powerful Beast

The ASUS Transformer Pad TF701T is a 10-inch Android tablet that packs a serious punch with a NVIDIA Tegra 4 quad-core 1.9GHz processor, a high resolution display, and a keyboard dock with a battery pack. Can the Transformer Pad Infinity TF701T be the...

Solid design and build quality ; Good display ; Comes with keyboard mobile dock ; Excellent overall performance

A tad thicker and heavier than better designed competitors

Where does the TF701T stand in the crowded tablet space filled with equally powerful competitors? Well, ASUS did a pretty good job with the TF701 although there is room for improvement if it wants to maintain its relevance in the near future.

Asus Transformer Pad TF701T Android tablet

Has Asus made its adored tablet even better with its latest Transformer?

Outstanding screen ; Good connectivity ; Long battery life

Keyboard needs more refining

There is a lot to like about the new Asus Transformer Pad. It is powerful, has a fantastic screen and offers the additional functionality of a keyboard and trackpad. But all of this comes at a price.
