HP Elite x2 G1 (1012)

A serious business-oriented tablet with a good selection of features, the HP Elite x2 G1 (1012) has a lot going for it—just not its balance of price and performance.

Excellent display. Long battery life.

Relatively expensive. Soft speakers. No on-board stylus storage.

Conclusion Finding the sweet spot between price and features is one of the biggest challenges of tablet shopping, and the recent proliferation of affordable Windows slates and convertibles has made the process even more difficult. For all the sharp...

HP Elite x2 1012 G1 Tablet with Travel Keyboard

The HP Elite x2 is different. Starting at the same $899 as a Surface Pro 4 (£708 in the UK or AU$1661 in Australia), HP's 12-inch tablet includes the keyboard cover that Microsoft's slate lacks. And a fingerprint sensor. And a non-proprietary USB-C...

The updated HP Elite x2 has a slim, sturdy design, a more comfortable keyboard than Microsoft's Surface Pro and it includes that keyboard in the base price. With a fingerprint reader, replaceable components and docking options, it's suitable for both...

The Elite's touchpad is easily confused, sometimes unresponsive, and the battery won't quite last a full day.

HP's Elite x2 is a must-look for any buyer considering a Microsoft Surface-like computer, and the quality bundled keyboard means it effectively costs less, too.

HP Elite x2 1012 G1 review: Intel's Core m gets the job done in this sturdy convertible

HP designed its 12-inch Elite x2 convertible tablet with notebook-class ruggedness in mind, and it largely succeeds. But while it offers seriously solid competition for the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, a few features fall short of the bar.

Durable chassis withstands two-foot drop onto concrete ; Tough Gorilla Glass 4 display ; Designed for repair and upgrading

Keyboard separates from tablet surprisingly easily ; A little heavy compared to the competition ; String attachment for pen is awkward

HP’s Elite x2 competes well with the new crop of convertible tablets, which provide a compelling argument that they represent the next iteration of mobile productivity—smartphones aside, that is. We mixed in a small number of notebooks as well, just to...

HP Elite x2 1011 G1 Tablet With Power Keyboard

The HP Elite x2 1011 G1 is a solid Windows business tablet with strong battery life, but it lacks the performance of other, more powerful detachable-hybrid models.

Svelte laptop-like design with the keyboard. Good productivity performance and very long battery life in testing.

Expensive. Poor graphics performance in our tests. Keyboard and tablet sometimes don't sync.

Conclusions The HP Elite x2 1011 G1 is a highly portable detachable-hybrid tablet. Its battery life is one of the best in its class, and its performance on our productivity tests is solid. You'll need to download the latest driver, however, to avoid...

HP Elite x2 1012 G1 Convertible Review

Business Elite. With the Elite x2 1012 G1, HP takes on Microsoft's Surface Pro 4. The convertible offers a keyboard dock, an active stylus and an LTE modem. At almost 1500 Euros (~$1690), the complete package doesn't come cheap, however.

IPS display ; silent ; M.2 SSD ; keyboard dock ; ActivePen ; very good battery life ; LTE modem ; 3-year warranty

expensive ; chassis could be more sturdy

Just like the competing manufacturers, HP outfits the Elite x2 with Core-m CPUs from Intel's current Skylake-generation of processors. The performance is more than adequate for most usage scenarios. Even extended loads don't cause a performance drop....

HP Elite x2 1011 G1 Convertible Review

Limited performance. HP advertises its new business detachable as: "The one device you need...". In fact, the Elite x2 is a versatile multi-talent, but it ultimately misses a better rating due to minor flaws in details.

Solid, well-built casing, DisplayPort (4K @ 60 Hz), Outstanding keyboard and digitizer, Bright and viewing angle Full HD screen, Low noise and temperature development, Long battery life, 3-year warranty

No ac Wi-Fi, Middling cameras, Mouse pad with sensor keys, Limited CPU performance, Slow battery charging, High price

The competition was first: Models like the Lenovo ThinkPad Helix 2 and the Toshiba Portégé Z20t show just what can be expected of a modern business detachable. However, HP has managed to set its own highlights with the Elite x2 1011 G1 - some positive,...
