HP EliteBook 2740p

The HP EliteBook 2740p adds a twist to the typical design of ultraportable laptops. As a notebook, this thin, light PC fits big performance into its small case, but that's not all. You can rotate the display to shift it into tablet mode. A...

Multitouch screen responds to fingers and stylus ; Quick performance keeps up with nearly anything

Mediocre battery life ; Mediocre image brightness and contrast

While battery life and screen colors can be disappointing, the HP Elitebook 2740p makes up for those shortcomings with its convertible touchscreen and all-around performance.

HP EliteBook 2740p

The HP EliteBook 2740p transitions to standard-voltage processor and adds multitouch, but the screen and the user experience could use an overhaul.

Standard-voltage processors replace low-volt ones. When used in tandem, the two batteries delivered outstanding battery life. Lightweight. Ruggedized for business travel. Sleekest looking tablet.

Pointing stick is stiff. Very small touchpad. Screen isn't bright enough. Extended battery ($180) and expansion base ($250) are very pricey options.

Master of transformation. HP is already releasing the third gener

Very solid and high quality case; Relatively many interfaces; Very good display with touch and pen entry; Very good application performance; Relatively good battery run times; Many expansion options; 36 months warranty; Very low heat emission

Operating noise always noticeable; Somewhat delicate display hinge; Keyboard bounces a little; Relatively heavy; Expensive; 1.8" hard drive with poor performance; Very slow card reader; no eSATA, USB 3.0, or Displayport; VGA output without high...

Lenovo X201 tablet, Dell Latitude XT2 and Fujitsu Lifebook T730. A more affordable alternative is the predecessor HP 2730p which can be picked up for a bargain.

Review: HP EliteBook 2740p Tablet PC

Road warriors have a new weapon in their arsenal of computer technology. The HP EliteBook 2740p combines both a tablet, and a laptop and together they make a potent combination.

I really like this laptop, it is powerful, and versatile. If you travel a lot then the EliteBook 2740p would be great because of its compact size. If you need a tablet, but you also need something more powerful than an iPad or Android tablet, the 2740p...

Laptop Review: HP EliteBook 2740p

One reason for our battery life gripe is that HP didn't skimp with a low-voltage or netbook-class CPU when building the EliteBook: The chip under the hood is, if anything, an overachiever -- Intel's Core i5-540M, a 2.53GHz dual-core, four-threaded...

HP EliteBook 2740p Review

Excellent multitouch display ; Solid keyboard and touchpad ; Very good performance

Plastic screen lid

For standard office productivity and media applications, the 2740p had no trouble blasting through with room to spare. HD movie decoding decoded 720P and 1080P movies without any lag. During our 1080P movie trailer test, the CPU usage varied between...

HP EliteBook 2740p

PC makers taking a swing at the tablet market tend to go for low-power, lightweight systems to compete with the iPad, but that means they're giving you a netbook experience at rather more than a netbook price. With the EliteBook 2740p, HP has gone in...

Powerful tablet PC, great pen input, great touch input, a great keyboard, excellent screen, delightful touches like the keyboard light

Weight, less-than-stellar battery life, the price

The EliteBook models are HP's attempt to combine business features with both style and sturdiness. The 2740p takes the great pen experience of previous EliteBook tablets and adds the performance of a full-voltage Core i5 processor, plus the convenience...

HP EliteBook 2740p review

As a notebook, the thin, light HP EliteBook 2740p PC fits big performance into its small case, but that's not all. You can rotate the display to shift it into tablet mode. A pressure-sensitive stylus can do sketches on screen, or you can point with up...

While it takes an extra battery - and added weight - for the HP EliteBook 2740p to feel complete, this small laptop can handle mobile work anywhere. It's quick, and the convertible touchscreen makes it especially versatile. That touchscreen and the...
