Review: USB 2.0 and FireWire Combo hub (HUB-UF)

Petite and versatilve hub

Light weight. Mount it vertically, horizontally, or magnetically. Excellent travel accessory

Provide power for up to 3 devices. Only 2 FireWire ports, but one must be connected to the computer. Could use another FireWire port

Just as my desktop started to resemble a nest of snakes with its tangled mass of USB and FireWire cables, I discovered Macally Peripherals’ USB 2.0 FireWire Hi-Speed Combo Hub. The hub expands the number of USB 1.1 or 2.0 and FireWire ports available

Macally USB2 hub

Introduction Well as USB2 is getting more and more popular people are getting more products that require USB 2 ports. Tonight we will have a look at a USB2 hub from Macally. It's a 4 port hub that can run your products on USB 2. This is a small little...

Small ; Works very good ; Easy to use ; Looks good

Very lightweight so the cables actually move the hub around ; Lack of documentation

This is a great device that works very good. Performance wise there is no difference if using the hub or not. It’s very small so it will fit anywhere. Everything you need is included so you can just plug and play. One thing that I found was wrong with...

Nice Color ; Easy to install ; 2 ports eatch

Have to download drivers ; have to put in power cabel

Well let's see how it went for this great looking product. It's very fast and simple to install. I really like this product, except that you have to download drivers to install the USB 2.0 drivers the firewire works without drivers. Please download...

Macally IceCam2 webcam

While your MacBook comes with a webcam built-in, where do you turn if you want to opt for something different? Macally believes it has the answer with the IceCam2. We get video calling to find out the facts. At £20 it's not going to break the bank if...

Video quality is good

Microphone poor

At £20 it’s not going to break the bank if you aren’t happy with the performance once you get it out of the box. The colour balance and video capabilities against the MacBook Pro's built-in camera is better, shame the sound isn't.

IceCam2 review

Respectable picture quality and good software support help the IceCam2 stand out.

Good value, stylish, Mac-friendly design, easy to set up and operate, lens focus can be manually adjusted

It can only run with one conferencing app at a time, image quality controls are limited to focus ring on lens

Still, this is streets ahead of the older model, offering respectable picture quality and a much more durable construction.

Macally IceCam 2

Macally's IceCam 2 is a USB 2 webcam that looks rather like a white, one-eyed head and shoulders image of Pixar's Wall-E. It's also a very decent webcam for anyone who doesn't have an iSight on their Mac

This wouldn't be an issue if you could opt to use the camera for video and choose another device for audio, but the IceCam 2 is identified as one device, so you have to use it for both or not at all. That limits its appeal if you need better audio...

No spying when unplugged

It works fine and I had no issues using it with my Mac on both Skype and Google Video (or whatever Google is calling their video chat these days). Plus, I know that it can't be used surreptitiously when it is unplugged (or has the NSA figured that out...

None so far. It is clipped to the top of my Asus 27" monitor, hasn't fallen off, and does not damage the case.

Not Worth It

It has a very small profile, and matched my computer color scheme

The microphone does not pick up my voice clearly from two feet away. The picture quality is so poor that I cannot read large (5 inch) letters on a white board 3-4 feet away. I bought it for Skype but the picture is too fuzzy to be useful. Faces even a...
