HTC U12+ review: Fundamentally flawed

There's no real reason to choose the HTC U12+ over any other 2018 Android flagship. Sure, it has a good camera, a big, beautiful display and is appropriately priced, but there are too many viable alternatives. What's more, the day-to-day user...

Great display and audio ; One of the best cameras around ; Solid performance with the latest mobile chip

Terrible and frustrating pressure-sensitive power and volume keys ; Not quite as responsive as other flagships ; Front-facing dual camera isn’t great

HTC U12 Plus review

Excellent performance ; Daylong battery life ; Strong camera ; Great sound

Overly sensitive digital buttons ; Sense UI is dull, lots of bloatware ; Display has poor viewing angles

The HTC U12 Plus is a good phone, but frustrating digital buttons and quirky software throws it all under the bus.

HTC U12+ review: One too many pressing problems

The HTC U12+ has a great camera and is loaded with the latest components, but its bloated UI and dumb buttons are too much to bear.

The slim-bezel design is a big improvement over the U11. ; The front and rear cameras are very good.

The buttons, my god, the buttons. ; The bloated Sense UI makes the phone feel slower than it should. ; The glass back, while pretty, is slippery and doesn't support wireless charging.

Two kinds of people will buy an HTC U12+: unabashed HTC fans who still think the company makes better phones than Samsung, and Verizon or T-Mobile customers who get an offer they can’t refuse. For everyone else, the U12+ is a conundrum. On one hand,...

You can squeeze this phone to make it open any app

HTC's squeezable phone pushes boundaries, but lacks finesse.

The HTC U12 Plus lets you customize its squeezable sides to launch any app. It has a fast processor, good cameras and is water-resistant.

Its "fake" side buttons are tiring to use. Photos required too much editing to make good. Battery life is mediocre for a battery this size. There's no headphone jack.

While the HTC U12 Plus is one of the most unusual phones you can buy, it lacks the refinement to truly compete against Samsung, LG and OnePlus.

HTC U12+

The HTC U12+ is an attractive phone that hits all the modern trends, but there isn't much to distinguish it from other flagship models.

Attractive design. Fast processor. Sharp front and rear cameras. Useful squeeze sensor.

Unresponsive side buttons. No headphone jack or included dongle. Heavy UI layer.

The HTC U12+ is solid addition to the current crop of flagship handsets, but it doesn't stand out. Starting at $800, it's priced to compete with the very best, and it succeeds in its gorgeous design, sharp display, and excellent camera performance. But...

HTC U12 Plus review: fixing what didn’t need to be broken

HTC still does a lot of things well, but its new ideas miss the mark

Camera produces sharp, noise-free images ; Narrow design makes for an ergonomic shape ; Attractive, distinctive color options

The solid-state buttons are a disaster ; Still no headphone jack, and now there’s no adapter either ; With glass on both sides, slippery to handle ; Software is full of little and big annoyances

The questions about HTC’s future as a phone maker will persist, but they would have been much more vexing had the company produced a compelling phone with the U12 Plus. Instead, HTC has given us plenty of its signature design, spec, and camera...

HTC U12 Plus Smartphone Review

Future+. If we had to narrow down HTC to a single quality it would be innovative, and the HTC U12+ definitely fits that bill as well and is full to the brim with the latest technology. Let us find out whether or not it is as futuristic as it seems at...

good looking case surface ; fast SoC ; upgradeable memory ; dual SIM ; fast communication modules ; good GPS ; great audio ; strong main camera performance ; excellent included headset ; dust- and water-proof ; high color accuracy

main camera's secondary lens no better than average ; display too dark ; battery smaller than on the predecessor ; comparatively bulky case ; poor to mediocre battery life

HTC has upped the ante on the U12+ and once again presented itself as an innovative force in the smartphone realm. According to the manufacturer, the improved Edge Sense capabilities are going to allow for completely new devices. The smartphone’s...

Great design ; Excellent audio features ; Camera with great potential ; Priced to compete

A bit large and heavy

HTC U12+ Review

HTC's skipped the U12 and gone straight to the U12+. In making this move, the company has shrunken the bezels and lengthened the screen to gain the popular 18:9 display ratio, while keeping the footprint slightly smaller than the U11+ and only...

Takes good photos, 2X camera is nice having ; Edge Sense adds useful quick-function mapping ; Sounds great – with earbuds and without ; Display shows crisp detail and has good color reproduction ; Top-notch internals and top-tier performance

Dreadful haptic side buttons have us longing for real ones ; Display is hard to see outdoors
