Quality seemed nice for entire time we used it.

It is pretty much useless without the remote.

Want technology in your home for a low price... Read this

Wow! At last I'm in pace with technology at home. I have to admit it: I loved my VCR way too much to even consider having a DVD. I just considered "normal" to rent a video, use a cleaner for the heads, push 'Play', view the movie, and rewinding it to...

What to know about the JVC XV-523GD DVD player

Recently I purchased the JVC XV-523GD DVD player and I have to admit I am mostly pleased. It took me a long time to buy a DVD player because I spent forever researching every player I came across. Finally I decided on the JVC XV-523GD DVD player...

Fairly inexpensive, plays CD-Rs, and you have to admit you like the color

The picture quality is only a little above average

Do you DVD? I do with JVC';s DVD Player

I wanted simplicity in a DVD player. A player that is simple to operate with a simple price. I found both when I purchased JVC's XV-523GD DVD player.

JVC XV-523GD -- Full-Featured DVD Player Bargain with CD-R (Playback) Capability

The JVC XV-523GD plays CD-R's as well as DVD's and regular CD's. It also has a good array of outputs, including just about every output jack except for analog 5.1-channel (it doesn't have an internal digital surround-sound decoder, so it would have no...

JVC XV-523GD DVD Player - Plays CD-R/W Discs

JVC XV-523GD can play CD-R and CD-RW discs in addition to regular DVD-Video, Video CD and CD-Audio. Not all players on the market do that, so if you mix your own CDs (or burn Video CD) or plan to do so, you might consider this model or other players...

Plays CD-R and CD-RW, inexpensive, good picture and sound, looks nice, shuttle control

Well after a few months of extensive research, I had decided on the JVC XV-523GD. I had chosen it because it would play CD-Rs and CD-RWs and it would connect with my existing JVC components with AV-CompuLink so that all I have too do is insert a tape...

Great features, small nitpicks

I bought a Sony DVP-S360, and thought I had fallen in love... until I found one glaring problem. Sony's DVD players don't read CD-R's in any form or fashion due to their current laser technology, and aren't using them in any DVD players until the...

Product Specifications

This new JVC XV-523GD is the "all-in-one" player that people are looking for. Not only does it play DVD and CD, it also plays the new CD-R and CD-RW recordable CD formats. The power supply, digital circuitry, analog audio and analog video circuits are physically separated. Moreover, the Luminance (Y) and Color (C) signals run on separate paths, as do component video signals, to avoid interference and the degradation it can cause. Component Video Outputs provide the highest level of video signal transfer quality available today when connected to televisions equipped with compatible inputs. By dividing the video signal into component elements, component video outputs deliver a remarkable improvement in picture detail at maximum resolution, with unmatched color purity and edge detail. Color blooming and "hanging dots" are eliminated, and other NTSC artifacts are eliminated. When connected to a receiver or amplifier with a Dolby Digital or DTS decoder through either the optical or coaxial digital outputs, you can enjoy the phenomenal experience of video through five discrete full range channels, whether for stunning sound effects or crystal clear dialogue. 10-Bit 27 MHz Video D/A Conversion provides rapid processing of the video signal with less signal loss, ensuring maximum image resolution and images free of artifacts. 3D-PHONIC Virtual Surround Sound, exclusive JVC technology, takes signals from all channels (even 5.1 Dolby Digital signals) and bends and shapes them to simulate 3-dimensional surround sound, boasting the highest sound quality among virtual Dolby decoders. For the enthusiast who is building a home theater product by product, this feature provides sonic spaciousness when used with stereo audio systems or televisions. 96 kHz/24-bit Audio D/A Converter maximizes DVD and CD audio performance capability, providing smoother, less digitized transitions, and richer sonic texture. Bit-Rate Meter provides a display of the average bit-rate being used to decode the video from scene to scene, giving you an quantifiable indication of the effort put into the mastering process. Serious moviephiles will enjoy using it to compare transfers of various films. On-screen displays make it easy to adjust more picture, sound, and convenience features from either the remote control or the front panel controls.
