Performance

Sony RDR-VX500

Records to four DVD formats; FireWire input; easy to use; very good VHS transfer image quality.

Expensive; no S-Video input on rear panel; negligible video noise reduction; poorly designed remote.

This easy-to-use VCR/DVD combo recorder can dub to lots of recordable formats, but it does cost more than the competition.

DVD/VCR Recorder Combo: good for all projects

I received the Sony RDR-VX500 VCR and DVD recorder as a Christmas gift back in 2005. Since then, I have recorded dozens of DVDs both from VHS tapes and from live programming with DirecTV. This combo is very easy to set up, and the remote very ...

Easy to use, quality product

Don't forget to finish DVDs to play elsewhere

This electronic tech of 30 years is pleased.

Supports 4 DVD and CD disks, MP3 and JPEG. Very Versatile.

Only two speed tape drive. Disk and title naming is arduous.

Great Entry Level DVD Burner!

Easy to use, very good transfers from VHS, easy to transfer VHS to DVD

Unable to remove irritating "Checking Disc/Disc Loading" from TV display when loading any DVD

Great Entry Level DVD Burner!

I bought this recorder because I would like to archive my old VHS home video tapes, some dating as far back as 1987. I don't dare play these tapes anymore for fear of deteriorating them any further. And that's the main reason we don't play our wedding ...

Sony's Quality seems to have gone downhill lately

Good feature set, fair ease of use.

Terrible firmware design, terrible product reliability.

Sony RVR-VX500 DVD recorder vcr Combo...It's going back to the store today.

Well built sharp in appearance. Simple and direct recording functions. Easy of operation.

Recording quality in VCR and DVD was disappointing. No better than standard VCR.

Sony RDR-VX500 excels in variety of ways

Great features, fairly simple to operate, works with all 4 major types of disc media

Reliability is suspect as mine is in the Sony service center for repair right now.

One of the better recorders - doesn't like copied movies, though

After purchasing and returning an iLo DVD recorder (it didn't like the new copy protection scheme on movies like The Forgotten - nor my Miami Vice Season One DVD set), I read the small amount of reviews available on the Sony RDR-VX500, decided not to ...

For many in the mainstream, the rock solid performance will be just right.

A little pricey, and it doesn't seem to like copied DVD movies.
