HP ElitePad 900 review: HP's first Windows 8 tablet for the business world

HP's business PCs have always been surprisingly pretty. Not that good looks are high on our list of criteria, mind you, but at the very least they make a

Gorgeous, durable design ; Bright IPS display ; Useful accessories, including a case with a spare battery

Sluggish performance ; Middling battery life ; Expensive compared to other business tablets

The ElitePad 900 is a well-made tablet with a lovely display and lots of business-friendly security features. But sluggish performance and mediocre battery life dampen our enthusiasm.

HP ElitePad 900 review: A rugged Win 8 tablet for business road warriors

This mil-spec tested tablet can take punishment, but its performance is held back by a slow processor and a small amount of memory.

MILSPEC 810-G tested (should withstand water splashes, dust, and the occasional drop) ; Sleek, smart design ; Comprehensive collection of selection of accessories available ; More than seven hours of battery life

Very slow performance with application software ; Maximum of 64MB of storage (32MB standard) ; No USB ports on the tablet itself (only on the dock or optional cases)

A rugged, but basic tablet offering oodles of optional accessories, but only lackluster performance.

HP ElitePad 900 means business

This IT-friendly Atom tablet is expensive but flexible, thanks to its collection of accessories.

The ; is a well-built business tablet with an impressive array of add-ons and accessories.

The base tablet starts out expensive, and those docks and jacket accessories add even more to the cost. Intel's Atom performance continues to underwhelm.

If someone else is footing the bill, HP's expensive ElitePad 900 and its accessory ecosystem cover a lot of bases, but this isn't going to be a consumer crossover product.

HP ElitePad 900 review

One of the interesting things about the current crop of Windows 8 tablets is the many opportunities it gives PC makers to come up with clever accessories. For a standard laptop, there are, I suppose, bags and sleeves, but once you have that and maybe a...

HP ElitePad 900

The HP ElitePad 900 brings Windows 8 slate tablet computing to SMB and enterprise businesses.

16x10 aspect ratio on display. Simple design. Full size HDMI on Expansion Jacket. Enterprise ready accessories. Has NFC.

No ports on tablet chassis, requires Expansion Jacket for USB, HDMI, etc. No alternate charging. MicroSD and SIM slot requires paper clip. Limited multimedia creation. Doesn't work with Wacom digitizer stylus.

HP ElitePad 900 Productivity Jacket Review

The productivity jacket is a clamshell keyboard dock for the HP ElitePad 900. Does this transform a basic Windows 8 tablet into a real laptop?

Clamshell Keeps tablet in place ; Magnets provide additional display stability

Keys often stick ; Poor weight distribution ; The Productivity Jacket provides a serviceable experience, but the quality hardly justifies HP's $200 asking price.

HP ElitePad 900 review

Although it's well built and delivers decent battery life, the ElitePad 900's combination of a basic Atom-based tablet and a range of optional extras is an expensive way to build a work-ready system.

Solid build quality ; Good battery life ; Thin and comfortable to hold ; Mobile broadband option

Necessary accessories add to cost ; Minimal scope for expansion without accessories ; Proprietary charging connector ; Lacklustre performance

HP ElitePad 900

Lovely design with aluminum casing, sharp IPS display, a variety of useful expansion jackets and docks make this very versatile

Expensive, not lighter than an Ultrabook when paired with the keyboard jacket. The Intel Atom Z2760 isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. Few ports on tablet itself

The HP ElitePad 900 is a business-worthy Windows 8 tablet that a consumer could love. The jackets remind us of the grand days of the HP iPAQ and its sleeves: they make the device useful in a variety of scenarios while maintaining portability and...

HP Elitepad 900 review: average tablet, crazy price

If you end up walking out the shop clutching an Elitepad 900, you’ll own a stable, functional machine. But you’ll be overlooking one simple and quite blatant reality: the 900 offers a great deal less, for a great deal more money, than Apple’s iPad.
