Sony Xperia Tablet Z review: the company's best Android tablet yet

It wasn't all that long ago that every month offered up yet another Android tablet for review. While Samsung is still producing plenty, the output of

Wide viewing angles ; Infrared blaster and remote apps easy to set up ; Water-resistant, stylish design

Weedy charger, temperamental micro-USB port ; Frustrating waterproof covers

The Xperia Tablet Z serves as an excellent second screen. Remote functionality is easy to set up, while the display is one of the best we've seen from Sony's Xperia range, if not the market in total.

Sony Xperia Tablet Z review: Stepping up

The Xperia Tablet Z gets a prominent spot in a long list of iconic designs by Sony. Easily one of the best looking tablets around, the Z inherits the slim, water-resistant design of its smartphone counterpart, which earns it extra points with the...

6.9mm slim tablet with IP57 certification, dust and water resistant (up to 1m for 30 minutes) ; 10.1" 16M-color TFT capacitive touchscreen of WUXGA resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels); Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 ; 1.5 GHz quad-core Krait CPU, Adreno 320,...

Runs an older Android version ; Screen has poor outdoor visibility ; Audio output quality is not on par with other tablets on the market ; Uses a previous generation chipset, slightly slower than the current best ; 6,000mAh battery isn't very big for a...

After blowing hot and cold with unorthodox designs, Sony seem to have finally nailed their tablet styling. The Xperia Tablet Z combines stay-at-home comfort with on-the-go usability.

Sony Xperia Tablet Z review

Growing up, I read constantly. I read at the breakfast table, on the bus, in class (though usually not the book I was supposed to be reading), at lunch, at home, and in bed. My parents mostly...

Thin, light, and well-made ; Waterproof tablets are awesome ; Solid performance and battery life

Screens coloring is off ; Everything goes haywire when really wet ; $500 for an Android tablet is hard to justify

Sony Xperia Tablet Z

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z is among the finest Android tablets available, combining an incredibly thin and light design with top-notch performance.

Remarkably thin and light. Sharp and bright full-HD display. Fully waterproof. Blazing-fast performance. Built-in IR emitter for home theater remote control. MicroSD card slot and HDMI out through MHL.

Feels delicate. Slow, somewhat finicky charging. Mediocre battery life.

Sony Xperia Tablet Z ( 16GB)

The Tablet Z is also fully waterproof: I've had it submerged in half a foot of water for minutes at a time and have thoroughly hosed it down with a level of fervency only the most diligent of corrections officers can relate to. Yet after a quick...

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z offers a refreshingly thin and light design, with great gaming performance, and a sharp screen. The MHL connection, impressive waterproofing, and expandable storage are notably appreciated extras.

$500 for 16GB of storage is a heavy price hike compared with Sony’s previous tablet entry, and the tablet’s poor network performance and slow app loading cuts into its value. The low-light camera feature isn’t as effective as a traditional flash.

Though awash in features, the Xperia Tablet Z's $500 price is a decidedly bitter pill to swallow when a better, cheaper alternative exists for $100 less.

Sony Xperia Tablet Z review

The Xperia Tablet Z is the thinnest and lightest large tablet I've yet held. A fact made somewhat more impressive given that Sony doesn't skimp physical features. An MHL connection, expandable storage, and two better-than-decent cameras -- tablets with...

Sony Xperia Tablet Z Review

Sony Xperia Tablet Z Review | The Sony Xperia Tablet Z features the most impressive industrial design we have seen to date.

We have always known that “specs” and synthetic benchmarks don’t tell the whole story and the Sony Xperia Tablet Z is probably the embodiment of that principle. In absolute terms, it performs very well, but when you look at it from the prism of...

Review Sony Xperia Tablet Z Update

Sharp as a razor. Sony had manufacturing issues with their Tablet

Very flat and light; Dust and water resistant; High performance; Numerous wireless communication options; Appealing display; Viable main camera

Middle-of-the-road stability; Weak front camera; Speakers crackle at full volume

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z wants to play in the top league. Therefore the competitors are: the Apple iPad 4, Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T, Google Nexus 10 and Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 – the crème de la crème, that is.
