Avoid this model like the plague

It seemed like a great deal --- an open box model at Circuit City from a major electronics producer. Little did I know that after about 5 phone calls, probably 5 hours of my time, and even a full refurb'ed replacement that proceeded to fail in the...

Very prone to inexplicable breakdowns

This player is very user-friendly and produces a very clear picture for a reasonable price.

Many times it over heats itself which causes the movies to skip and jump.

RCA RC5220P -- Nothing to brag about!

The only reason I chose this DVD player was because it fit in my entertainment center easily. With many DVD players at $200 or less, other brands seemed more desirable. This unit works like any DVD player should, but the playback is somewhat squeaky...

Product Specifications

With Thomson DVD players, watching movies at home will never be the same. These players bring you the ultimate in picture quality, with over twice the definition of standard VHS, and CD quality sound. With the press of a button, you can view movies in a widescreen format, and in another language (with compatible discs). Plus, you can enjoy distortion-free special effects. And since the Thomson DVD player is totally compatible with CDs, you can double your entertainment capabilities. Thomson's RC5220P DVD-Video player is everything you'd want in a basic, budget model: a slim, lightweight player with extensive features at a good price. The RC5220P's S-Video and composite video outputs, well served by the player's state-of-the-art 10-bit digital video converters, deliver a clear, sharp image. In the audio realm, the RC5220Pdelivers high quality sound, with an above-average-sounding headphone jack. In addition, this deck has a great remote, a very smooth forward scan and a nifty menu system. The player outputs both Dolby Digital and DTS surround-sound formats through a single, switchable Toslink optical connection. Because the Toslink is an optical connector, you need to make sure that your surround receiver or processor accepts optical inputs rather than the standard coaxial inputs. The player offers a host of features that together help chisel "bargain" right across the RC5220P's name. Among these are parental lockout, bookmarking, and RF-adapter capability. With parental lockout, you can code the RC5220P to play no discs at all or only discs bearing certain user-determined ratings. Using bookmarks, the player can instantly recall up to 10 favorite moments within a DVD or CD. (Bookmarks clear when you remove the disc.) Finally, the RF adapter permits you to use the RC5220P with older televisions that may not have S-Video or composite-video inputs. Setup is quick and simple, taking only minutes from cracking open the box to enjoying a movie or CD. Programming is also a breeze. For dollar-conscious AV enthusiasts, you can't do much better.
