LG Optimus 4X HD review: runner-up to the quad-core throne

More InfoLG Optimus L7 reviewLG Optimus 4X HD unveiledLG Optimus 4X HD hands-onLG has an ongoing smartphone problem: despite a few valiant

Refined, well-crafted design ; Impressive performance ; Unobtrusive and simple skin

Display misses the mark ; Frustrating camera software ; Underwhelming battery life

LG's Optimus 4X HD may not have toppled Samsung's Galaxy S III and HTC's One X from the quad-core throne, but it's definitely made it to the royal court.

LG Optimus 4X HD P880 review: Firing on all fours

Last year LG was in pole position in the dual-core game with the Optimus 2X. It was the phone everyone looked up to, before there was a Galaxy S II and before there was an HTC Sensation. There was obviously no rush this time although, to be fair, LG...

Quad-band GSM and quad-band 3G support ; 21 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA ; 4.7" 16M-color True HD-IPS capacitive touchscreen of 720p resolution (720 x 1280 pixels), ~312 ppi; Gorilla glass ; Android OS v4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich with Optimus UI v3.0 ;...

No native video calls ; Video recording has autofocus issues ; Tegra 3 CPUs are built on 40nm process, while Exynos uses 32nm ; Disappointing audio output

The LG Optimus 4X HD couldn't repeat the feat of its dual-core predecessor, which had the spotlight all to itself for a good few months last year. Yet, it may turn out more fortunate than the Optimus 2X. The first dual-core phone made a reasonably big...

LG Optimus 4X HD review

LG's recent efforts in the US phone market have been somewhat... underwhelming. The company's been a stalwart supporter of 720p displays, which is great, but some combination of poor software, underpowered internals, and bad build quality have...

Solid build quality ; Some real improvements to Android 4.0 ; Stellar performance

Mediocre battery life ; Huge ; Speaker is insanely quiet

For once, LG gets almost all the pieces right

LG Optimus 4X HD: A Quad-Core Android Phone

The LG Optimus 4X HD ($560 unlocked; price as of 7/5/12) is LG's first foray into the quad-core world. Announced some four months ago at the Mobile World Congress, the 4X HD is powered by an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, but that's not its only highlight....

Powerful quad-core processor ; Crisp, clear display ; Runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich with NFC support

Camera isn't as good as competitors ; Optimus 3.0 UI is a bit clunky ; Build feels a bit cheap

The LG Optimus 4X HD is a very powerful phone, but the software and camera are lacking.

LG Optimus 4X HD (unlocked) review: LG Optimus 4X HD (unlocked)

Normally I'm not a jealous person. When my friend gets something on my wish list, you won't hear a peep from me. But after reviewing the LG Optimus 4X HD, I'm indeed "jelly" as kids say these days.

The LG Optimus 4X HD 's quad-core processor makes it incredibly zippy, it runs on Android 4.0, and it has NFC capabilities and a stunning HD-IPS LCD display.

The 4X HD can be unwieldy for small hands, the quality of its output speaker is less than stellar, and its UI isn't as elegant as the original ICS.

With its lightning-quick CPU, newest Android version, great touch screen, and NFC chip, the LG Optimus 4X HD is firing on all cylinders.

As you can surely tell, today we are comparing the LG Optimus 4X HD and the HTC One X – two top-of-the-line smartphones that have quite a lot in common. The two run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, which may not be the platform's latest...

LG Optimus 4X HD vs Apple iPhone 4S

The LG Optimus 4X HD and the iPhone 4S are as similar as they are different. Still, there is nothing wrong with pitting the two against each other, so that is exactly what we are doing in today's comparison. Curious to see how the LG Optimus 4X HD...

Choosing a winner in today's comparison is like saying that one of the ninja turtles is better than the other three. In other words, the LG Optimus 4X HD and the iPhone 4S are both excellent smartphones – each of the two has its superpowers that make...

LG Optimus 4X HD Review

The LG Optimus 4X HD has the full monty - a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, a 4.7” “True HD” display plus a fairly compact for it body, and the latest Android ICS out of the box. It also has a removable battery, microSD card slot and a plain regular SIM...

Most compact of the Android flagships ; Carrying regular SIM and microSD slots, plus a removable battery ; Handy new features like Quick Memo (note taking), Media Plex (video playback) and Time Machine (frame precapture)

Fiddly camera focus ; Automatic brightness adjustment only works from a preset baseline

The LG Optimus 4X HD is undoubtedly the best Android smartphone that the company has produced to date. It covers the geeky ground with a quad-core Tegra 3 chip, large and vivid HD display and the latest Android 4.0 out of the box.
