Panasonic DMR-EZ47VK

Just when you thought DVD recorders had finally run out of life, the federal government stepped in to spice things up. Because of the looming analog TV cutoff date, all DVD recorders this year include digital ATSC tuners , which means you can tune into...

The Panasonic DMR-EZ47VK records video to DVD or VHS; it has excellent recording quality, including an outstanding LP mode; HDMI output up to 1080p; good DVD upconversion; an SD card slot; flexible custom recording speed; DVD-RAM compatibility with the...

Its ATSC tuner cannot deliver full HDTV resolution; no EPG or IR blaster to control other gear.

Despite a few ATSC limitations, the Panasonic DMR-EZ47VK delivers almost all the features and performance we look for in a DVD/VHS recorder.

Although the DMR-EZ47V is a great option for anyone looking for a DVD/VCR combo, the gradual disappearance of VHS tapes means that this product is really only suitable for those who already have large collections.

Great recording functionality, support for DVD-RAM, DVD upscaling

VHS becoming increasingly rare, no high-definition digital reception

Recommended!

Panasonic DMR-EZ47V - DVD Recorder/VHS Combi

If you're still clinging on to your VHS cassettes then Panasonic's DMR-EZ47V could be the perfect all-in-one solution.

The DMR-EZ47V is a superb solution for those still clinging on to their cassettes. Picture quality is superb - even in the low-bitrate modes - but above all its wonderful operating system makes it one of the most user-friendly recorders we've tested....

Getting kitted-up for the high-definition age is crucial, but what about all those VHS tapes you're loathe to discard? Combi decks have been around for a while, but Panasonic's newest is aimed squarely at owners of flatscreen TVs

Superb connectivity, Built-in Freeview tuner, Accepts almost all formats of DVDR

No analogue TV tuner, No HDD, Some picture quality issues

With upscaling from VHS, DVD and Freeview on offer, a hard disk isn't missed on this great value DVD recorder

"Will ruin DVD-RW discs, lock up on on DVD-R discs."

I bought both units, about nine months apart based mostly on CNET reviews, but dependability is horrible, unless you can live with it only working properly for no more than a few months.

DVD and VHS recordibg capbilities.

"Not what I wanted"

DVD's burned from programmed TV programs won't play on other DVD players. Clock won't set automatically and loses 30 seconds per week. DVD's burned from VHS won't play on other DVD players. Panasonic customer service isn't much help either.

Easy to program. Plays VHS and DVD ok.

Can't view burned DVD's on other DVD players.

"Not a bad piece of equipment but......"

Everything is as the other reviewers said but it doesn't do me any good as I cannot 'finalize' the newly created DVD. As par for the course, the manual is written in Japanese-American so its not the easiest to read. On page 10 3a, it says just to press...

Fairly easy to use

I can't figure out how to 'finalize' the new DVD

Product Specifications

Bring back special moments and enjoy high-quality images. With a slot for your SD digital image memory card, you can create a slideshow of your favorite photos taken with your digital camera on your Pansonic plasma television. Simply press a button and One-Touch 2-Way Copying lets you transfer material from VHS tapes to DVD discs and vice versa. This means you can easily record your entire video library onto DVD for a collection that takes up much less space. During tape-to-DVD copying, there's also a handy function that reads recording start (VISS) signals on a tape and automatically creates thumbnails on the DVD discs. The Accutune Digital Tuner is a high performance hybrid tuner capable of receiving both digital and analog broadcasts. It uses a signal processor to effectively control noise and distortion, and its proprietary matching circuits allow it to transform and separate digital or analog signals. When digital broadcast signals drop out, generally the picture either disappears or becomes filled with block-noise, but the Accutune Digital Tuner produces a beautiful picture even under difficult reception conditions, such as when there are obstacles interfering with direct signal access. With twice the horizontal resolution (500 lines vs. the 250-line standard of many other DVD recorders) when recording in LP mode, you can fit up to four hours of recordings on one DVD (4.7GB capacity) and still enjoy crisp, vibrant and exceptionally detailed images. 1080p up-conversion with HDMI converts video images to 1080p digital resolution for sharp, high-impact images. Incredibly versatile and multi-format-friendly, you can record to and play back just about any DVD, including DVD-R/-RW/-RAM/+R/+RW discs, as well as DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-R (dual layer), DVD+R (dual layer), CD, CD-DA and CD-R/RW (including MP3 files). With a Panasonic DVD recorder, never think twice about what disc you need. Panasonic DVD recorders are equipped with a high-precision progressive video processor that handles 30-frame progressive scan images on NTSC discs. This lets you enjoy high-resolution progressive playback of original DVD images. Tired of tangled wires? HDMI Simple Connection lets you connect your components with one cable, while EZ Sync HDAVI Control means you can connect your DVD player to your Panasonic components and control operation with one touch of your remote.
